I will check later but pretty sure mine only does this if I have activated the auto hill hold function. Manual 2012

As above, with a combination of the VCDS option and the auto-hill-hold button, you should be able to get it working.

    Hope you get it sorted.

Have driven auto's for over 30yrs and hardly ever use the handbrake, just move it to park (which you have to do to remove the key) and it rolls a few inches before wheels lock.

Downside is that have to ensure that I give the handbrake a good workout prior to MOT time

Very very occasionally I do this on my C6 and then cringe when the car stops rolling. OK, its on an almost flat driveway, but I can't help feeling its not very sympathetic to the drive train.

Maybe I'm overcautious as I also release the EPB switch manually every (and I do mean every) time, rather than letting the transmission overcome the brakes. The last time I admitted to this I got a few "Why?"s and the odd "like", although I feel somewhat vindicated now after reading Honest John suggesting that a lot of (premature) rear brake wear is down to the EPB system's auto release.

I've never let the tranny overcome the brakes...but then only knew it did that at the end of last year.

My last set of pads on my profile pic car lasted 45k miles (as I use them so infrequently) preferring to coast to a standstill or up to a junction. I'm almost certain that since I'm covering the brake pedal my reaction time should be better than anyone with their foot on the loud pedal

It also aids economy as don't know anyone else that's managed 900 miles on a tank in a C6 quattro.

Yeah. I'll be at 50k in the C6 by the end of this current tank - and still on the originals. No mention of them at MOT almost a month ago. I'd like to be able to say how well I did with its tyres, but with 3 different sets of wheels its hard to tell. I know I recently bought some new rubber for the excitement (and for the next owner).

I got 96k out of my back pads and discs (originals!) and have never released the handbrake manually. Owned the car since 33k/1yr old and I'm pretty sure the first owner let the car do its thing.

Played with it this evening and on my 2012 manual the handbrake does not automatically apply when switching off the engine unless hill hold assist is activated
