It was just a suggestion to check in case it was off I usual leave it on all the time

Moe, as HHGTTG has said, you can't actually put it off permanently you have to manually set it to off every time you go to lock the car as it automatically comes on. Its the same as the ESP setting.

Most of the time when I lock the car, the LED doesn't activate. I've noticed that if I then unlock the car, and re-lock it, the LED gives six rapid flashes and then flashes normally.

The manual states that just locking the car will activate the alarm, although it makes no reference to the LED. The only reference I can see to the LED is in the section on dead-locking, where if you puch the lock button twice the dead-locking is deativated, but I'm not doing this.

    Does anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks.
    Hi Blackthorn,

The LED light on my Golf 1.6 Tdi does exactly the same. Sometimes it works straight away and other times I have to unlock and then re-lock. When I first got the car the alarm activated twice whilst the car was in the garage with all the doors locked. I took it back to the dealer who found that the sensitivity of the alarm had left the factory set at 100% and they had received at bulletin from VW stating that they should be set at 60% as 100% is far too sensitive, so they changed it to 60%. I can't recall whether the LED was doing this before they changed it or not.

As I mention on my previous reply, I was having the same problem. However I read a thread on another forum which has solved the problem.
If you lock the doors from inside either manually or using the auto door lock function, you must unlock the door before getting out of the car using the door unlock button. If you do this the LED works ok. Mine now lights every time with a few rapid flashes followed by flashes ever 2-3 seconds. I did however test the alarm when the LED did not light and the alarm still activated so all was still well.
    Hope this helps

That's strange as I have the auto door lock activated and I don't unlock it using the button before getting out. I just pull the handle and the alarm light functions perfectly.

Does anyone sometimes find that when the lock their car the interior lights dont go off meaning that i have to unlock and relock the car.

I always double click the lock on the key fob and this seems to activate the flashing Led ok!

I find the interior light ties in with the LED. On those occasions when the LED flashes, the light will have gone out. On occasions when the LED doesn't flash, the light stays on (for 20 seconds, or whatever the delay interval is).

Unlocking with the button before getting out seems to fix it, but it's a bit rubbish that you've got to do that. At least on my car, not everyone's it seems!

According to the manual, pushing the lock button twice will deactivate the deadlock function.

No. This has never happened to me, neither in my old MK5 or my current MK6.
Something sounds wrong to me and if you double click, don't you disable the deadlocking feature that does not allow a thief to open the door even though he's smashed a window?

That would be the deadlock function that I posted in my earlier reply.
