    Hi all,

I normally post in the Audi section of this forum, but I now hope that somebody from the VW section could come to my resue

My mom drives an '89 Golf GTS fitted with a factory alarm (I'm hoping that the South African and UK version would be the same). On my mom's Golf there is a little key switch behind and above the gearlever that can be used as a bypass for the alarm. Recently the batteries in the remote died and as a precaution my mom bypassed the alarm using the key.

After replacing the remote's batteries she undid the bypass, but the alarm does not want to re-activate now. I thought that the wires on the "key unit" may have broken and checked that. I've also checked that all the wires are plugged into the alarm control unit (located under the dash in front of the gear lever) I tried to find the fuse for the alarm system, but cant find any dedicated fuses for the alarm system - I'm guessing that this is for security reasons, so that you can't just unplug the fuse and disable the alarm that way...

Does anybody have any ideas as to what this could be?

Thanks - does anybody know if there is a fuse for the Alarm System by any chance, so I can at least check that?
