Once again, I (and many others I'm sure) will be extremely interested to see if you get anywhere.

VOSA must be well aware by now of the saftey issues involved, and from the guff on their website they have the power to insist on a recall, so I can't see why they don't do it. Maybe it just needs more of us to complain?

    That's brilliant.

Probably too late now to get anything done before my French holiday trip, but I want to try this route myself. Which part of VW did you contact after speaking with VOSA? A phone number would be great.

If you don't mind me asking what number did you telephone? I have not had an injector failure but I would be interested in finding out if my car is affected. It’s a 2006 1.9Tdi PD. The car is my wife’s and she does the nursery run etc in the car so I would rather be proactive due to the nature of the fault.

I contacted the following number 0800 0833 920, taken from the VW website, and the lady at the other end of the phone didn’t seem particularly bothered when I described the nature if the possible fault. She maintained that due to the volume of cars sold by VW there would always be instances on forums where more than one person had been affected by the same fault/failure.

If I had any concerns regarding the car I was advised to take it to my local dealer for them to inspect the car but this would chargeable (Which is understandable, I don’t expect my local garage to work for free). I asked directly if there were any known issues with the injectors in question to which I was told no.

Normally I try not to read the problem threads on this forum as I would end up lying awake all night. However due to the nature of this failure and the number of people experiencing this issue I would like to do something about it.

I'm very worried by this issue, so encouraged by the success of Rapport and others I decided to contact VW.

I called VW Customer services (0800 0833 920) and explained that I had no injector failures yet, but was aware of the problem with Siemens injectors, and was very worried about the safety aspects of a sudden failure. Lady clearly knew all about the issue, was sympathetic, and told me herself that it would be frightening because the engine would completely cut out. She took my car details, my contact details, and the name of my local main dealer. Gave me a case number and said I would get a call in 24-48hrs. She said the case would be passed to a colleague who was dealing with "the Passat injector issue" to decide what they would do. The possibility of replacing all 4 injectors was mentioned.

Will report back when I hear more.

    Thanks for the feedback PatMcCoy.

I called back on the same number and this time I got a very helpful gentleman. I described my concerns, he listened and then asked for my car registration number. I confirmed my details, including my engine code, and he popped me on hold. After a few minutes he came back and said my engine was not affected by this issue.

I have a 2006 1.9tdi 105BHP, he said my engine code was not part of the affected batch and that it only affected 2.0 Tdi 140 & 170PS engines. Has this information been posted already, I may have missed this? He then placed me on hold while he went to confirm with the customer relations manager “in charge of the injector issue” to confirm that my engine wasn't affected.

The first lady I spoke with didn’t have any knowledge of the issue, the second person I spoke too was aware as he had dealt with the issue previously. After I ran through my concerns he pretty much admitted there was an issue, however he contested the fact that I was calling it a safety issue.

I would recommend to anyone they call VW for peace of mind.
