    you will of heard it before as i have read on here before but i just need someone with experience to back my decision or oppose it. its a gt tdi 150 , iv had the turbo cut out then be ok once i re start the car so i thought it must be electronic as the tubo obviously hadnt seized. it also feels a little sluggish.
    i took it to vw garage near mine and they put it on the diagnostic and said nothing showed up. surely even if my car had had the turbo cut out just once it should have been recorded on the ecu history. they said there was nothing.
    i noticed them maf sensors are notorious so i think ill chance it and see if my car benefits is there anything else i can do. what benefit does disconnecting the battery for 20 mins have.
    id really appreciate it if some one could offer me som help or suggestions.

    If its only happened once and the cars running ok I wouldnt bother going and buying anything. You may aswell wait and see if it starts happening more often first.

    its happened 4-5 times in the last 2 months. it just doesnt feel like there is enough boost. im told it should be quick and it feels flat to me. local vw place said the turbo is fine including hoses etc. when in 3/4th gear when in the higher end of the turbo range it really make a hissing noise louder than i would expect. its really beginning to annoy now as i swapped my audi which was fine for this and i am dissapointed with it.

    Before this degenerates into full scale war I'd just like to add the following;

    In this thread here (click me) you asked for advice on a recon turbo. You were given a few links but you never posted back with your findings so noone knew what, if anything, happened.

    In this post here (click me) you asked for advice on making your car that little bit quicker because your turbo was on its way out. You got some good advice but again, you never posted back with your findings so again, noone knew what, if anything, happened.

    Finally, in this current post you're asking for advice on replacing the MAF sensor. The FAQ in eshrules's signature, while not completely obvious (I'm sure he'll revise it to a more catchy title ) details common problems with the Golf and their solutions.

    What he was trying to do was to help you by asking you to keep everything in one place. It looks as though you're still chasing the same problem but now anyone wanting to help you has to search for all your previous posts to get a picture of what is going on. Obviously if you're new to the forum (and to forums in general) your desire for help is understandable, noone wants a broken car.

    Finally, with regards to your comments in post 3, eshrules's name is Carl (also in his signature), Carl is a man's name, so I'm not sure he's a "love".

    Shall we get back to the problem in hand?

    Perhaps you could update each of the above posts (in this post here) with what you found and then we can begin to piece together the car's fault history and any action you may (or may not) have taken so far.

    i thought the turbo was dodgy and was going to change it due to the car being gutless. upon a recent diagnostic nothing showed up but they said the turbo was definatly working so i dont require a new one. my car has done that limp mode thing were you have to restart the car to get the turbo to work on a few occasions. but in general i feels sluggish. it wont beat my mates saxo vts in a straight line. i was just after some experience as im after changing something which i have heard is commonly to blame and i just wantedsome advice on if it would be a good idea to risk changing the maf. surely something should have shown up as a fault code.
    its quite obvious i dont use forums which you recognised but the other person did not which is why i was a little rude back.

    The VTS may beat you, but your Golf looks and is built better

    You're hitting limp mode, that much is obvious.

    Have a scout for a MAF sensor on ebay or try asking some of our Supporting Parts Companies, we have a few on board now so you have a choice (you could also get them battering on prices too)

    You could also try our Dealership too

    Good luck getting it sorted and thanks for your apology - I'm sure Eshrules will be back to help you further shortly ;

    ok, now lets sort you out

    first of all, a few questions,

    • what type of garage did you visit
    • what sort of code reader did they use? was it a generic or was it a vagcom/vag specific code reader?
    • when you say it goes into limp mode, at what point, is this rev specific or does it occur at any point?
    • are you noticing poor MPG, poor idle, poor running or any other faults?
    if you can answer the above as fully as possible mate, ill try and help you out, i have a lot of experience with the fault you mention and i can always invite you down for a fault read/graph log of your car if we can't figure it out on here

    p.s. no hard feelings, lets put it down to a mis-understanding
