If you're getting a REALLY loud whistling noise then i'd guess it's a leaky pipe but other than the obvious excessive smoke (Poss blown Turbo) I have no idea

Hope it's something small and cheap
Ex Golf GT TDi 150. Then an Evo 8. Then a Honda S2000. Now an Evo 5 (and a little pug 106)

It sounds like it could be the air mass meter. Their not ridiculously expensive (about £100 or so) you can fit them yourself but for what extra it will cost I would get a garage to do it for u.

£100??? Blimey, I'm sure they were about £65 last time I checked.
If you're going to buy one, be sure to find out if its just the sensor component or the full housing unit. You may just be able to get away with just giving a good clean.

Search for threads on here and you will surely find some help on MAFs. Including how to test/diagnose to see if your MAF is at fault. Also some excellent threads on how to remove and replace your MAF.

I got a quote for £54 from VW for a new MAF, i paid £40 for one off ebay, which has been ok.

Try unpluging the maf and the car should rev further and smoother, but it will stil not be full power, but a good test.

If you are not getting any faults on vag-com, can you explain the power loss in more detail?

Can you hear the turbo spooling up?

Does the power tail off, or cut off abruptly?

What revs can the car reach, and does it still accelerate very slowly after 2500rpm?

    Do you have any smoke?

Have you had any work carried out on the car recently?

Sounds like the turbo is not working at all, but you should be throwing some 'manifold pressure' codes if it is not?

Check timing, injected quantities, temp readings, maf, cat, n75, map, throttle position sensor etc.

Make sure the vnt actuator rod is moving freely.

+ obvious things like blocked fuel/air filters, n75 pluged in + pipes atteched, turbo actuator hose attached, maf connected etc.

Can you post some vag-com measurements.

Some of things above I wouldn't know how to check, where to find them or what they are.

Any chance we can get a How To sticky with pics.
