    God i'm jealous. Have fun.

Things are still on track for ours or as the wife keeps telling me her car, to be ready the end of next month.

Also as an update to a post earlier re finance....have been discussing a PCP with the dealer and they've now quoted me one at 5.8%.

Trying to decide if it's better to use the savings as a nice big deposit or keep them in an account....the finance guys at audi thinks i should, but he would as it means audi get a larger slice of interest.

Yes, I got the 5.8% offer as well earlier this week and decided to go the PCP route after all. One of the reasons for making the decision is knowing that a completely new A3 is due in 2011 and much though I intend to enjoy the current model and all its toys, the temptation to change again in three years might be too much to resist.

Just out of interest .... Audi are currently offering a £700 "dealer contribution" towards the deposit on their latest Solutions package for the A3. I got a very good deal on my car when I ordered (from a salesman who's now left the company!) so I suppose it's understandable that I got nowhere when I suggested that the extra £700 might be available. Did your dealer mention this?

24 hours and 22 minutes to go ......

I didn't but might mention it the next time i speak to him.

But i wouldn't be suprised if he said no as i feel we probably got a good deal aswell.

It arrived at the dealer's on Monday of this week, two weeks to the day after the button was pressed for production to begin. Obviously, once the build process begins Audi doesn't hang about and the production updates via my dealer were quite exciting.

I could have collected it yesterday but decided that a Saturday collection would give me more time to enjoy/play/twiddle/poke and prod. Oh, and maybe even drive .....
Thats good news, I bet you cannot wait now!

I know you've gone for the 1.8 but what exact model did you go for (3 Door/5 Door, SE, Sport, S-line etc)?

I picked up my loan car today. Its an 08 plate A4 1.8 (only 500 miles on the clock). Very nice it is too. Exactly the same engine as in the A3 I guess. Its pretty nippy in the A4 so it should be even better in the lighter A3.

My build week has just dropped from 48 to 46, which is w/c 10th Nov. So hopefully should have it towards the end of the month. Crossed fingers.

That's good news on your build week - mine didn't drop at all while I was waiting.

I took delivery this morning and the whole experience was the best collection of a new car I've ever had. There's a special section of the showroom devoted to car handovers, just the right amount of space for one vehicle (of whatever size), and with large double doors to drive out through once all the paperwork and explanations have been completed. My car was completely covered with a large silver cloth, which was ceremoniously removed by the handover specialist and the salesman while I took a couple of photos.

Then came the drive home, a total pleasure despite the nerves occasioned by the fact that the only time I've ever driven an automatic was during the test drive of a 1.8 DSG during June.

Anyway, mine's a Sportback S-Line and it really does look fantastic. I specified quite a long list of options so have spent most of the afternoon pressing buttons (and driving a bit )

Now to get the phone sorted out. It's paired with the car but it's an N95 and I know there's some sort of download I need to make to the phone before it'll share the contacts with the car. Now I just need to find where I put that info ....

Enjoy the A4 but I think you'll enjoy the A3 more when you get it!

I'm glad your collection went well. Unveiling the car with a silver cloth sounds a great idea.

I've gone for a sportback 'sport', rather than the s-line as I was worried about the ride quality.

My previous car was a Honda Civic Type R with suspension similar to a concrete block. This was one of the reasons I got rid of it after just 1 year. Along with 1 recall for the handbrake, 3rd gear synchromesh replaced, replacement master clutch cylinder, and it leaked water through the top of the windscreen! Visited the dealer 8 times in one year.

Anyway, how do you find the ride quality in the s-line? I've been reading some press/owners reviews and there's a few complaints about the firm ride on the s-line and the sport. Its got me worried.

Can't help you on the mobile pairing, haven't gone for that option!

Oddly enough, I've just moved from a Honda as well. Mine's an Accord Ex of the generation that's just been superceded by the new model, and has been faultless apart from a lead that needed replacing when the air con stopped working earlier this year. The lead cost £15 and the labour £80 but that seemed a small price against the initial estimate of £500 for a complete new system.

I looked at Civics during the (very) long search for smaller car that would give the same level of luxury as the Accord, but there were too many issues with build quality.

Anyway, based on the miles I've done so far in the A3 - not many yet! - the ride quality is quite a lot firmer than the Accord but not uncomfortably so. Engine and road noise levels inside the car are much better than the Accord, and I always thought that was pretty quiet.

Overall, satisfaction levels so far are extremely high

You've reassured me a bit about the ride quality.

I'm surprised that the road noise is less in the A3 than the Accord. Its good news as some reports claim road noise to be high in the A3. The Accord is a very fine riding car though (my brother has the same model you had).

Glad you are impressed with the A3.

I have an A3 sport, chosen over the S-line as i didn't want a spine jarring ride. It's fine, the handles better than my MK4 Golf 1.8T but isn't too harsh on uneven A and B roads.

Raod noise is a bit of an issue on some poor surfaces (think concrete and quick re-surfacing with chippings). But it's nothing the radio can't cover up.

I missed the dealer collection experience as the car was was delivered to work.

enjoy your new car when its arrives.
