Hey presto effing annoying rattle banished hopefully for good.

No real method to this just bung the sponge bits in and test drive
I've got the same issue, and also at idle. The harder I press the throttle, the worse it becomes, especially around the 1800rpm mark. It's there all the way from idle and smooths out form around 2000rpm.

It's been in and out the workshop 7 times to sort this out. They've changed everything from the clutch and flywheel, to a new centre exhaust section and most recently a new cat. Problem still persists. Just sounds amazing that it could be the air filter as I can not only hear it, but feel it as a strong vibration through the car. Is mine maybe a different problem?

No luck at all. At the end of the day the ******** just told me to bring the car back and buy another one if I'm not happy. VW UK are totally no interested either.

I want to try this air filter sponge thing, but I cannot believe that is all that is at fault.

Right, while I can accept that people have addressed the problem with foam etc. my car was sorted by my dealer with no hassle.

Unfortunately my invoice does not specify what they actually did

All I do know is that I had the air box piping off this weekend to fit a HID kit and could find no evidence of anything the technician had done to rectify the issue.

I will try the sponge trick tomorrow. I am just trying to work out if this a car trait or something dying. To aid this and nerdy as it is, here are the sounds my car is making.

    In the back

    From under car

I will get one of it under load driving later. I want to have some idea of what it is rather than "just a booming noise"

It would be great if you could possibly find out what they did to sort this out? Which dealer was it?

It's totally spoiling a great car to the point where I hate driving it now. The wife uses it mostly.

I didn't get to talk with the technician, but the dealer who solved my growler is Heritage (VW) of Westbury in Wiltshire.
