    Hello,

I am seriously considering purhasing an '02 plate Golf GT PD150.
    77k on the clock.
Some minor stone chips at the front, but have been touched up.
    £5995 (price is negotiable)

I there anything in particular I should be looking out for, incase I buy a turkey? Only thing to note is there is no engine cover, as the previous owner has put an aluminium Samco hose running from the air box...

    What do you guys think?

Obviously when buying any car you wanna do the following things?

    - HPI Check the car (https://www.mytextcheck.com/)
    - Look through the service history? Is it regular?
    - Look through the previous paperwork and see what has been done and consider what may need to be done, in the future.

Regular Services from a VW Dealership, would suggest that the correct oil has been used in these engines, these engines can be your best friend or your worst nightmare depending on how they have been treated.

Seems a tad pricey to me to be honest. I picked my '03 plate PD150 up a few months back for £4800... 98k on the clock, air con, cd changer, excellent inside and out etc

It MUST have been run on the correct PD spec oil, and NOT been on the longlife service shedule (Oil change every 20000 or so miles!)

    https://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/s...light=oil+spec

Just one of the many posts about PD oil, so you get the idea!

Buy one thats been on the wrong oil and it will cost you £xxxx!

Hmmm... So as Crasher says the 150 is a money pit. I assume, after having done a bnit of trauling through the forum that if the PD oil isn't used, Turbos clog up and fail, and as been mentioned camshafts have a nasty habit of failing.

But the thing that concerns me most is the Dual Mass Flywheel. When the clutch dies, if its not replaced soon enough, the flywheel is knackered. costing mega bucks.

Do all these problems seem to be as common on the PD130? (I'm sure the power would be plenty, as it's for 'er indoors, as the old bad boy Mk2 is dying a death now, so moving from 90bhp - when new anyway, to 130bhp with bucket loads of torque would be a big leap anyway).

Yea I think the price is that steep as it will be given a service and MOT when sold, plus a years tax.

The thing is, she wants it in black, and no other colour. And the black ones all seem to be slghtly more expensive...

Have had my 150 for just over a year the only problems I have had are

    Brake light switch replaced
Lower intercooler pipe coming off, new pipe fitted twice
    Alternator pulley replaced
    Vacuum pipe coming loose.

Also had oil & filter change between services

After reading various posts, I think I'm getting off lightly at the moment

Make sure it's had a cambelt service at the right time, if you can't verify, get it done and don't take anyones word for it.

Also check ARB, inner/outer links, if they've not been changed they will need to be at some stage.

Similar probs with PD 130 for common shared parts, so all of above ect, though PD 150 has additional ones and even more rarer/expensive parts....

Also, don't go by milage on cambelt changes, go by year, it should be changed every 4 years as rubber starts to degrade after that time.
