Well just went through the MOT and advised new tyres are now required for my car. Both front tyres are heavily worn but rear tyres are still like new.

Looking around at tyre prices there is a big difference! My alloys are: 235/40 R18 95Y

For premium quality prices start from £170+, budget £130+ and economy is £80+

Because the rear tyres are like new, I have rotated them and put them to the front (they are Dunlops costing £210+ each)

I have gone for the economy brand West Lake SV308 as the tyre will be based at the rear, plus got a guarantee on the tyres as well as a good price (£60 per tyre including lifetime guarantee ).

So far the tyres have proved pretty good, only been a few hundred miles but can not tell the difference from the premium brand (will keep updating if anything occurs).

Good grip, no unusual noises and wear is holding - bare in mind has been only few hundred miles!

One year and a bit later... tires are still going strong! Have covered 8-10k miles both city and motorway.

No hiccups (not even a puncture!) and treads barely worn. Have since replace my dunlop ones with the same brand.

Grip and handling good, few more wheel spins but was expected having had revo stage 1 remap.

Iv never had any issues with braking even in the snow.

But knowing they are built to a price, il always recommend precaution when driving in wet conditions.

Premium tires will always be the best option, but if your doing reduced mileage and not really driving the car hard, then these should be fine.

until you hit a patch of water on a bend that you didn't see and end up inverted in the field at the side of the road as a result.
each to their own at the end of the day, but if you can't afford descent tyres then what about buying some smaller rims or a different car with smaller tyres that will work out cheaper.

its not so much the cost, considering the car, but more the amount of driving you plan to do - most of the time the car is parked up.

Compared to the dunlops... I didnt notice that much of a difference apart from the odd wheel spin here and there lol.

But 10k miles in british weather... is a good enough test for me

18" rims fit best on this car, anything smaller wouldnt suit it personally.

So you spent good money on a remap to get the car to go faster then stuck on some budget tyres!??

As someone who works in the motor industry I NEVER fit cheap tyres it's the only thing holding you on the road.
I had an incident the other day where the guy In front slammed his brakes on, I managed to stop about 30cm from his bumper! But with cheap budget tyres I would have probably hit him so looking down the nose of an insurance claim excess to pay out blah blah blah I will keep feeding my car only premium rubber.

To be honest If you take the mileage into account you will only change your tyres half as often as he budget ones.

Then there is the weight difference of budget tyres up to a couple of kilos per corner search google about "un-sprung weight!"

Then there is the noise..........but I will stop before i bore everyone.

P.s you may surmise I'm not a fan.

Fair play I understand and totally agree with your comments...

...but for me these fit the bill for the kind of driving I anticipate. As for the remap it was more designed for better fuel economy (you can probably sense the kind of driving style)

But again, I would highly recommend premium tyres overall... but this is simply my experience on these particular tyres.

you pays your money and takes your choice I guess, however no matter how careful a driver you are you cannot always anticipate when you may need to stop in a hurry. Thankfully you're in London so the chances of you being behind my car in that situation are slim. I will stick with my Goodyear ultra grips for the winter and bridgestones in the summer.

what makes this even better is you fit cheap tyres and then get the car remapped, you would have saved considerably more money on fuel by fitting premium fuel rated rubber over cheap ***** and a re map.
