Yes they can be ok, and of course you have the nice ones in the front doing most of the braking etc.
Lift off oversteer won't be improved but depends how hard you push them. Not wearing out is a sign of hard tyres, which will not be so grippy but glad you've had a good experience..... So far!

The next phase of tyre wear will be the most interesting.... Cheap tyres are normally much worse when over half worn. Again good luck

I'd never buy cheap economy tyres. It's all very well saying I'll drive slow and anticipate but you can never anticipate the emergency stop because of the cat running in front of the car ahead, or the school kid running between parked cars.
Having said that I don't buy Michelin/Pirelli etc. I feel they're too expensive.
I always go for a mid range tyre.....Vredestein, Avon, Kumho etc.....but right now I'm on Contis.

The ratings of these particular tyres are:
    fuel C, wet C, noise 72db

Being slightly harder compound the tread does last longer then most.

Slightly more bumpy but not louder then previous.

More fuel efficient then previous (ratings alot lower then others) by around 5mpg.

Replacing worn 3mm Dunlops... Noticeably more grip in all conditions.

Yes continental are great. I've had sport contact 2, 3 and now 5's and done track days etc.
I actually run quality winter tyres from november to march these days, which are in a different league in the cold/snow/mud

But again, I would highly recommend premium tyres overall... but this is simply my experience on these particular tyres.

Hi there, I've read your post with interest and must agree I'm afraid, but as said before every one to their own.....Its your car, your money and ultimately of course, your choice.

I'd just like to say that these tyres really don't get a great rep, my son who works for Kwik Fit would tell you the same, they're very cheap and built to a budget.

I fully appreciate your type of driving, careful and considerate, cruising along get good mpg etc etc and have had some decent mileage out of them, probably because they're a hard compound tyre ( not conducive to the best grip )

You do say in your post I quoted...."these fit the bill for the kind of driving I anticipate"

Unfortunately most nearly every accident are always in conditions you cannot anticipate and you have to react usually quite sharply, in wet conditions or standing water etc I fear you may find yourself in water of the hot variety.

Sorry for what seems a negative post, just the truth as I see it.

    Good luck

a couple of years ago, whilst doing 60 on a nice flat road in clear but overcast conditions, i hit 6'' of standing water after a very heavy downpour caused a river to flood the road. we had no idea it had even rained though, so could not prepare. i thought it was game over and i am sure if i had a lesser tyre that it would have been. to this day there are pinch marks on both front seats. luckily i like avon zv5's. they cut through to the road and the car didn't even flinch. absolutely amazing. scariest driving scenario ever where i was driving and could have crashed. i would like to see what would have happened on these chinese tyres.

I presume therefore that you always buy the most expensive tyre you can find? - after all, I presume you have a family, wife and kids?

Also, the 1% or 2% fuel economy difference you might get from more efficient tyres, over the life of the tyre might equate to £30 or so of fuel. Nothing to write home about.

Its interesting to read the test reports in Which which show that the dearest tyre isn't always the best performer .Some cheap tyres are almost as good as others twice the price and if you only pootle round town it could make sense to consider these. It also means you can afford to change them before the tread gets too low which you might be tempted to do if they were top priced .A lot of good quality goods cars included are imported from low wage economies.Whatever your choice its certainly safer to buy new not used which more seem to do these days
