    Afternoon all,

I'm due to pick up a my new car this weekend + was hoping to get a bit of informed advice?

It's a 2006 A6 avant 2.7tdi S Line with 70k mileage + a manual gearbox. On the test drive it was very good, no clutch / gearbox issues, engine was smooth + pulled well. No suspension issue's or general rattles etc. It 'seems' like an awesome car tbh.

The dealership (not Audi, just a general outlet) is due to service it (oil + air filter etc), will change the brake fluid also, MOT it + refurb the alloys.

Would anybody have any advice on what to look out for + any recommendations?

    - I'm looking at doing the swirl flap fix, I understand I can pick up the kit from Audi?
    - Remap? any recommendations of the type + somebody in the West Yorkshire area would be ideal
    - What type of mpg should I expect around town, I'm hoping for mid-30's?

Thanks again, I'm sure I'll be a regular visitor

    Thanks for that MarkTM

I'm also looking at cleaning up the existing leather seats, they have a few scuffs / marks.

Any recommendations on a DIY leather cleaning / refurb kit

I wouldn't bother with swirl flaps until it becomes an issue (just did mine at 73000) so yours may have been done prior. I have just had mine serviced and is now on fixed 10000 miles/ 1 yr servicing. (see forum for longlife against fixed servicing) so maybe asked garage to change to fixed (up to you). Also try and start the car from cold and listen for rattles (cam tensioners) Check and push every button, switch and knob to make sure all works. If possible get him to scan the cars computer whilst you are there, so you can see any errors (These will be in RED). Good luck, great car..I have one.

Kash, depends on what colour your leather seats are.

I went for black as from experience a little black leather dye (or permenant marker!) after a clean with autoglym leather cleaner, then seal it in with some conditioner

I prefer the gliptone two step process

    Thanks again guys

Looking like I'll be picking it up next weekend now, waiting for the alloy wheels refurb

As I'm intending on keeping it for a good few years would anybody recommend any other service items for a 70k mileage 2.7tdi V6 A6 S Line, manual gearbox?

    - Cambelt (or is it chain driven)?
    - Gearbox oil
    - Fuel Filter
    - Is there an update to the MMI 2006 stock system that's DIY'able + worth doing
    - Also is there anything I need to watch out for generally with this particular model / spec of car.....ie, any particular week points.

Again any other suggestions most appreciated

    Audi or specialist
    - Fuel Filter

MMI basic? Mmi high? latter having a large colour screen

A6_Chris thanks for the reply, just to clarify

Gearbox oil: I can pick up the required spec of gearbox oil + get it changed, but you would recommend getting it changed on a 70k mileage car that I presume is a 'sealed for life' unit?

Fuel filter: I'll double check on the service book, I'm sure it's been approx 20-30k miles since the fuel filter was done.

MMI: it does have a large colour screen, I'll check back on that once I've had the car for a few weeks.

Vulnerbale parts to his car / model: preseume there isn't any then?

poosnp.......the le mans spec are very smart looking cars, sounds like your gonna enjoy it! I've had a BMW 320 msport spec a few yrs ago and it was a big disappointment tbh. Very poor fuel economy for a 2L and a drab interior. Hopefully this A6 is a decent step up from that car, we'll see I guess.

    Kash

I've the saloon but on my readings of the forum the weakness/improvement areas seem to be:

Avant - rear washer piping goes over MMI/Amp and is prone to leak (wrecking MMI/Amp) this is a DIY fix
Both - Rear lights prone to condensation - guidance on here re drilling them out to prevent this
    Both - Front drop/c-links - prone to wear but a reasonable DIY job 2x FRONT STABILISER ANTI-ROLL BAR DROP LINK AUDI A6 4F C6 2.0-4.2 A8 4E 2.8-6.0 | eBay
