As potential purchase should an 08 plate be free of these issues and how to tell between CR and PD?

Shape of the fake inlet tract runners on the engine cover IIII = PD //// = CR.

There's also a sticker inside the spare wheel well which includes the engine code as does the one on the B post when you open the doors.

-just back from a regular return trip from Southampton to Rossendale Lancs, 250 miles each way. Before having the new injectors fitted I consistently got 50-52 mpg on the way up, and 48-50 mpg on the way back. This time I got 57.4mpg on the way up and 54.5mpg on the way back. All figures from the on-board computer. Seems to stack up with other posters who've seen improvements of 10%+. The car (170 Sport with BMR engine) )has only covered 33k miles from new, and has had regular doses of Millers injector cleaner, so it seems unlikely (to me at least) that the old injectors were clogged or significantly worn. Makes me wonder if it isn't just the sealing of the injectors that has been improved.
