    Hi,
    I have a 54 plate 1.8t S-line.
How much should i be looking to pay for a Kam Belt change (waterpump and tensioners) and also a long life service.

From a very reputable Audi specialist ive been quoted £320 for the Kam Belt Change, water pump and pre tensioners and £245 for the long life service. This includes spark plugs, oil filter, Pollen Filter, Air Filter, oil change, fluid top up.

Are these good prices? Anything i should be looking for on each job.

    Cheers
    Russ

That seems a little bit on the dear side to me, they're charging you for the jobs seperately, not combining the labour.

It may be worth contacting a few main dealers, they're offering competitive rates at the moment.

    whereabouts are you based?

    Current dealer rates:
    Cambelt + tensioners £320
    Water pump £104

Coolant as required £12 per bottle used.

Worth checking with the dealer and I will know tomorrow for sure, but they are running the £99/£199 plan on servicing - 80k should be a change-all plus change pollen filter - which should be £199+£23 - however it depends on what was done at the last (as it's variable). There's talk that they may be re-setting the cars to fixed interval servicing on this deal, but my dealer assured me that they won't touch that if it's already on variable....ymmv.

    Cheers,
    Dan.

Hi there, I've just been quoted £399 for belt, pump and tensioners!!!! I've found an independent that'll do it for £305. So in my most humble opinion £320 from a main dealer is good.

    Hi, im in Thurrock, Essex.

Spoke with audi today and for the Cam Belt, water pump etc it was about £440 as opposed to £320 at the other place.

The service was £199 but they said they would check all filters and only change if neccesary. Plus they were a bit coy when asked about the longlife service and resetting the service indicator accordingly

Another place has quoted me £360 for the cam and £140 for a service. Not sure if the service was as Thorough.

My original quote was from Peter Breading of Aviation Way, Southend. Heard good things about him.

you don't have to, but it's advisable, for the cost of the water pump (part), to have it replaced whilst the timing belt is off.

you've got peace of mind until the next time you do the belt.

    water pump - ~£50

rebuilt engine as a result of overheat - £££

Per my other posts on this, the £199 for >3yr old cars (or the £99 come to that) is valid for cars on longlife (mine is and I had a lengthy discussion with them on Friday before the service). If they give you any hot air, get them to call Audi CS - it's been a communications balls up from start to finish according to my local dealer. Also on the £199 service, that is the line they will give "we will check and replace if required" but the prices they are being allowed to charge from Audi are keen, and I was told that if I requested they replace all the filters included in the service they would do so - thereby getting the max done for the money.

Incidentally, it's worth knowing what you need to change as they managed to save me £60 this service. I was at 60k on variable. That meant oil, pollen and air filter needed changing (pollen 20k, diesel 40k, air 60k). I was going to do the £199 deal, but since the diesel filter was changed at the last service, they did the £99 service plus pollen and air and gave me a bill of just over £150. The service paperwork and book says 60k Variable service and has a price of £99 on the invoice, plus the pollen and air at book rates. It's a bit of a mess for them to do as they have to juggle the numbers (other than oil) to make the totals match up on the invoice, but they did a good job for a fair price :-)

    HTH,
    Dan.
