Well I got the results today £1200 inc vat to fix problem, mine was the hexagonal shaped rod that fits between the oil pump and shaft in the sump it had rounded it self and the hole where it fits. Looks like no damage to the big end, VW said they may contribute to help pay for the work but probably only 15% so Ive left at the private VW specialist I took it to because he's still cheaper than taking to the VW dealer with the contribution. Gonna see if the garage I bought it from 4 months ago might want to chip in as a good will gesture?? who knows, an expensive trip to my wifes hairdresser though!

Can I suggest contacting Trading Standards. I think the garage you bought the car from have a legal obligation to repair your car as it failed within 6 months of purchase. It is covered by the Sale of Goods act. Worth checking before putting your hand in your wallet

Hi m8, at the moment you can get an rac handheld tester for £44.01 ( Argos are having an end of catalog clearout - RAC Fault Code Reader.

    740/2742)

it works with the 2006 passat and will tell you if there are any error codes.

My Passat has the BKP engine and it was first registered September 2005 (55 plate). Everything is dandy at the moment (at 48k) in regards to the car and I'm very pleased with it - touch wood! There is no sticker next to the spare wheel or info in the service manual (with full main dealer VW service history) to say this campaign/recall has been carried out.

I was at the dealer earlier this week and the invoice stated they'd checked (via ETOS? ETKA?) for recalls on my car - none required.

My question is: does anyone know if I can get information relating to recalls/campaigns from VW UK, so I can double-check? If so, is it through VW Customer Service or is there a technical department? Is it also possible to get information relating to any work previously carried out on my car by the dealer?

    Any help much appreciated.

The problem is on the BKP engine, it depends on when it was built.

    Hi Crasher
I am a new member and I pick my car up on Monday it is a Passat Highline TDI 130 registered on 17/06/05 with 82k on, is this one of the problem engines do you know.
Before I bought this car I googled it for known faults and this did not show up and I have just got rid of a Lexus GS300 Sport because of expensive known faults and I had to replace my brake master cylinder booster at 88k which is a common fault and the cost was £2000.00 I also had to replace my radio due to lost pixals another £750.00.
I have only paid a £100.00 pound deposit at the moment so I could always back out of the deal in all fairness the car comes with a 2 year warranty but I am retired so the car will not be doing a lot of mileage.
I do get really annoyed with these known faults on cars that the makers know about and expect us do do the expensive repairs with no help from them.

    Thanks
    Norman

You are in the clear Norman.

It is the 140bhp engines from 2006 that have the problem (affects all VW/Audi group models with this unit), but it is a lottery as to if ou have a bad one or not.

    I speak from experience.............

Argh! Mine has the BKP engine

I'm unsure of the exact build date but my Passat was first registered in September 2005.

I don't suppose you have info on which VINs are affected, do you?
