It needs a proper oil pressure test carrying out using a pressure gauge at 2000 rpm and with the oil at around 80 degrees; the pressure must be at least 2 bar.

    Hi Crasher
I'm new to the forum, would you be kind enough to tell me how likely - in your opinion - my car might be affected?

It is pre change point which was at chassis WVWZZZ3CZ6P070000 (approximately) so yes it is at risk.

Please delete your info now, there is a tiny risk of it being misused.

my car is a 1.9 tdi 115BHP registered ON 19- 07- 2000 is it likely to be effected with the same problem or is it more likely to be a glitch?

No, your engine uses a completely different system. If the oil pressure light comes on, never assume it is a glitch, it must be tested but I suspect it will be a faulty sender.

on the subject of faulty parts/known problems, were there any serious issues affecting 2 litre petrol engines? I have an early 2.0 FSI, and have recently had the cambelt + associated components replaced.

    thanks.

    Hi Crasher,

Just been reading this thread and am now worried.

Driving home last night, the car asked me to check oil level, no message telling to stop, so was checking it this morning, when the end broke off the dipstick, when it was in the engine!!!!!

Anyway car is in being looked at now, hopefully all ok as I didn't start it, but am no concerned about this issue. My car is a June '05 140 tdi, do you think it'll suffere with this problem? The engine does have a BKP number.

You comments and advice would be great.

    Many thanks

An 05 BKP is well within the affected range. You have two choices, drive it and see if it fails or have the work done preventatively. You could find, as one of my friends did, when stripping it down to do it that the work has been done.

    Crasher,

    Thanks for that.

Would they be able to tell when they take the sump off to find the end of the dipstick? If so what should they be looking for?

When the sump is off they will be able to see if it has the early chain driven or later spur gear driven balancer shaft module.
