    Hi. I have an A3 Sportback 3.2 Quatro 2005.

Just 3 months out of it's warrenty the DSG packed up. Not a happy owner! I wonder if anyone else has had such a failure in such a 'young' car? I had done less than 29k miles. I have had to have a replacement DSG...VERY expensive! Audi say this is a rare case, but I would like to know if there are any other similar cases?

What is the DSG and what actually happened to your car if you had to replace the DSG?

and how much did it cost?

How do you drive your car? Do you rip it or do you drive sensibly? its horrible when soemthing bad happens to your car

Hi Golf TDI. I note that in the four days since you joined this forum, you have posted 73 replies..like seeing your name then??!!

I had hope for a constructive reply, not one from someone who doesn't know what a DSG is, then asks cost of the repair..'clueless on cars' seems about right

See www.tdiforum.com and search for DSG gearbox. Many posts about failures with them...I personally would take a manual gearbox over an automatic any time, much cheaper to replace a 300 pounds clutch than a 5k gearbox ! And dont believe what they say it is an AUTOMATIC gearbox ! The failures are most likely because overheating due to abuse or excesive slippage wich will boil the ATF and will sred the clutch plates to bits. Then there is a rather complicated gearbox ECU wich is known to have bugs as well !

Take a chill pill. Golf TDi was sympathising with you and posted a reply which may not have been helpful for you but was not exactly offensive.

    Oh, here's another useless reply.

c'mon Golf..Why a moronic comment like 'bad things happen etc etc'? I put that down to your age. I came on the AUDI forum for help, not stupid comments like that.

    Thanks adamss24. for a redirection.

DSG= direct shift gearbox, and no! I don't know everything about cars, just enough to be able to ask the question about a failure in mine, and to find out if it is a rare fault, or more common than I have been led to believe.
