    Hi,

Got a cable through a recent Group Buy on this forum and got it working sweet. Can connect to individual modules and scan, no probs (can't do an auto scan, as VAG-COM says it's not registered, which is true, plan to do that sometime soon.)

Anyhow, had a few faults, eg, rear door module intermittent fault and Temp Sensor. Since it's the first time I've scanned the modules, I've cleared the lot, see what returns and then deal with them. But... the following error for the temperature sensor disappears when I clear it, then VAG-COM automatically goes and checks for any fault codes on that module again. It returns immediately.

Control Module Part Number: 038 906 019 HJ
    Component and/or Version: 1,9l R4 EDC 0000SG 1576
    Software Coding: 00002
    Work Shop Code: WSC 01266
    Additional Info: WVWZZZ1JZ3W641764 VWZ6Z0C0070058
    1 Fault Found:
17664 - Engine Coolant Temp Sensor (G62): Open or Short to Plus
    P1256 - 35-10 - - - Intermitten

Now I thought that since the fault is showing as 'intermittent' I'd expect it to be showing again after a few days, though not immediately. Can the status/frequency of the code be classed as anything different from intermittent?

The car goes like a rocket and TBH it seems everything is working 100%, I was suprised to see the code for the temp sensor and thought it was perhaps left over from when the previous owner had it changed or something. The car is: 2003 Golf TDI 130, Engine: ASZ.

I know that many functions require registration, but is it needed for this module?

    Cheers.

from what i see, you've read the code, cleared it and it's come back immediately.

have you tried addressing the problem? IE checking the wiring, that the temp sensor is plugged in properly or, perhaps, even replacing the sensor?

that is known problem on vw. it has 4 pins, 2 are going on temp gage on the dash and other 2 on ecu. theu could make some problems if you leave it like that. so you should change it. previous models were black and now theu are green.

Thanks guys for the responses. My intention was always to have the sensor replaced. What I was interested to know was whether being unable to clear the code was an unregistered VAG-COM limitation, or the 'intermittent' error is more a continuous error since the error returns immediately.

    Cheers.

if it's allowing you to clear it, it won't be a limitation of vagcom, rather the fact that the fault is ever-present.

replace that sensor and re-try, i'm pretty certain you'll have no further issues.

Thanks EE. I'll be changing the sensor when I service my car next week, weather permitting and will update this thread.

    Cheers.

Temp sensor changed. Cleared the fault using VAG-COM and it stayed away. Yipee! One thing I have immediately noticed, is that the glow plug light switches off very quickly (1 second). Used to be about 5 seconds before. No difference noticed with the performance of the engine, it's still a potential licence-loser!
    Thanks guys.

It should run a bit smoother now with the new ECT sensor and should not smoke as much on start up as the engine runs much leaner and the timing is advanced according to the outside temp....
