    Hi
I noticed that my gear knob started to vibrate when idling if I had my air con on. Now it bibrates without the air con on and I think I can hear a rattle coming from the engine.

    Any ideas please?

    A4 TDI (red I) 1998.

Hi,i had this very same problem recently on my own tdi (red i ) and sent it into be repaired thinking it might be a rear mount needing replacement ( which is alledgedly common in these)

turned out my 3rd injector was knackered causing the wobbly idle!! Out they all came tp be cleaned etc, replaced No.3, re-fitted, engine tested, running perfect! ..... gear knob still vibrating

    take two.
    flywheel
not 100% on the tech stuff but was explained to me that they've a 2 piece flywheel and they were outta balance

decided to leave it as i was told was didn't really pose any major threat.

sorry if none of that helps but be no harm to check those 3 listed!

Dual mass flywheell...It will cost more than what the car's worth to put right as it will need a new DMF and a clutch kit as well !

MY audi has 220,000 miles and is probably worth £1000 in bits so I won't be doing any major work on it !

Someone said to me that my water pump ma be on teh way out. How would I tell?

    Thanks

If your water pump is on its way out it may make a harsh wining sound or it could be leaking or the blades may have fallen of the pump but when any of the above happens you will know there is something wrong.

you shouldn't be keeping your hand on it during motorway driving it says in my manual that this will wear the selector forks.
