That car was never sold in the UK, we only had the 2.8 V6 (the Audi wide angle) engine and later the 4 cylinder TDI. All the parts for the Syncro and 4 Motion VR5 with the AGZ and the later 2000 onwards AZX engine (they used the 01A transmission as does the 88 80q) are easily available from a VW dealer although they may take time to arrive when the car wasn’t available in your market. Even here you would be looking at two weeks. As for part numbers a few examples are the engine to box intermediate plate, VW part number 022 103 551 which costs £80 and the flywheel is 071 105 266 but it costs a terrifying £535 because it is a dual mass unit. However it is available from a company called LUK. It was only ever used on the Passat with the VR5 engine and four wheel drive. The clutch was used in a variety of longitudinal installation VAG vehicles from 1990 to 2005 and is available from LUK under their part number 624 3032 00 and also from Sachs under the number 3000 387 101. The flywheel bolts are off the shelf VAG parts, number N 906 978 01 and so should easily be available from your local VAG dealer and the manual gearbox version didn’t use the crank to flywheel 15-mm spacer and adjustment shim, only on the auto model flex plate.

First and foremost, I just wanted to say THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

I have been searching for this information for SOOOOOO long.

    ok...

I already have the intermediate plate.

So I just need the flywheel, flywheel bolts, and a clutch.

Then I just have to do the rest of the fabrication, but that's the easy part!

I know you've gone through a ton of work for me already, however I have a one more question for you.

Is the starter unique to the VR5 Passat?

I know very little about Audi part interchangability, however if you ever have any VR6 questions, I would be more than happy to answer them for you in return!

I AM GETTING SO EXCITED RIGHT NOW!

Calm down old boy, you will do yourself a mischief! The starter is unique to the VR5 engine only but not just the four wheel drive version. The VW part number is 012 911 023 but has changed to 012 911 023 X for an exchange unit and over here it costs £120 plus an exchange surcharge as you have no old unit to hand back. The Bosch part number is 0 001 107 070 for a new unit or 0 986 020 850 for a remanufactured unit. I have sent you a PM so you can send me your email address; I have some pictures and diagrams of the starter.
