    Hi guys,

My passat compresses a fair bit over the bumps, and i am regularly hearing my flaps scrape the tarmac.

The flaps are OE, the hard plastic type, and although it doesn't bother me them scraping, it does make me think my shocks/springs are a little on the soft side.

Its a 'sport', and it passes the bump test on each corner, so it is a little surprising; am i just not used to driving a bigger barge?

It does 'spring up' out of dips/compressions in the road as if the socks have had it compared to cars i am used to driving.

    Your thoughts please..thanks

    Regards

    Tom

My 2001 SE had mudflaps. They scraped on everything and anything.

When I lowered it, I managed to tear the rear ones off within minutes of leaving the driveway. I now just have the front mudflaps (to protect my paintwork

It's normal, very annoying, but normal.

    Thanks and hi!

Did you find your passat a little bouncy before you lowered it? I think thats the best way to describe it...

    Regards

    Tom

Our 2001 Sport has dealer-fit flaps from new and dont ground out unless laden to silly limits (four adults, 60 bottles of wine, luggage for a fortnight crammed into every gap and a well-stuffed roofbox), and even with 130k plus on the original suspension doesn`t ground even over speed bumps.
Might be worth finding a similar car and checking the ride height.
The Sport shouldn`t be particularly bouncy, its a good deal firmer that the others, which I like (had a B5 SE before which made me seasick) but others think is too harsh, and they prefer the standard settings.

    You pays your money......

I,too, have noticed my TDI highline grounding on the speed bumps in our road. I don't go over them too fast, but it does ground occasionaly. It doesn't seem to be load dependant either.
This didn't happen with the A4 I had previously!
Maybe I should go on that diet now...

likewise my b5.5 estate sport tdi fitted with vw plastic mudflaps also catches speed humps etc quite a lot, and also the front arch liner/undertray part catches aswell...car has standard suspension etc and only covered 33k...standard feature me thinks.

It was stable when fully laden but quite scary when you're on your own. In crosswinds it was like driving a blancmange.
