As a lot of members on this forum are from less sunny climates than mine I just wanted to say how well the automatic wipers worked. I have owned my car almost a year, having bought it in December 14 and today was the first time that the wipers have come on in the rain! That is over 16200 miles in ten and a half months. It did rain 3 or 4 times in the last year but I wasn't driving at the time of the shower, I was hoping to get a whole year

Where you're located in the world is obviously a big factor

I have owned 4 car with auto wipers and none of them have shared the same opinion as me about when to wipe. Static in monsoon conditions and frantic activity in light drizzle. I have now disabled them and resorted to good old variable intermittent. Auto wipers are an answer to a question nobody asked.

They are a question I would have asked. Had them on all but one of my cars in the last 12 years and it drove me mad when I didn't have them. Very very occasionally I have to intervene when they're not going quick enough, but not often enough to want to turn them off.

In the Peak District I can measure the last time I used them in hours usually, not months or years!

I never remember a time that I struggled to work out if it was raining or not or found it a chore to flex my index finger to flick the wiper stalk! In fact I find myself fiddling with the wiper switch more to overcome the uselessness of Auto wipe systems when they are enabled.

The rain sensor wipers on my previous 525D BMW were rubbish. much better on the A7. And it does rain a lot in Glasgow so they are well tested!
