    Hi All,

Hoping to get a bit of help in how to resolve the V157 fault. They have said that it could be the Throttle Body (Controller Lid), EGR or the intake manifold or possibly a sensor issue.

the actual alarm shows as v157 motor for manifold intake flap - intermittent fault P3103

When I turn off the ignition I do notice more of a judder in the engine sometimes.

This is what i have done so far:

-Removed the Throttle body and cleaned it - flap is intact and teeth feel like they have tension all the way to closed. Vale is open by default.
-Removed EGR and cleaned this also. Re-tested and EML remained on most of the time but occasionally turned off.

Just recently the turbo has now started to be intermittent with no obvious pattern Sometimes its just not there but could appear in 2nd or in 5th. But if/when the turbo does kick in if i keep increasing speed through the gears the turbo seems to stay until i slow down. Almost like a pressure issue?? But this issue has only come after the initial EML - not at the same time.

I bought a 2nd hand throttle body and replaced it yesterday (controller lid as audi dealer refers to it) and retested. The turbo now works through all the gears but then i remembered that i forgot to connect the electrical connection back onto the throttle body...arrgh!! As soon as i reconnected it the turbo issue returned. I am wondering if this is actually a sensor/electrical type issue and the mechanical parts for the manifold are actually ok??

I am really hoping for some advice that i can do to help find the actual fault and not just replace parts that are related.

Any advice would be really appreciated.

    Thanks

    Franco

You need to align the throttle body using VCDS or similar software

Chances are the second hand unit is also knackered. I would remove the cover and inspect the gear teeth

Have you done a search in the forum for the fault code?

    Hi Doctle Odd,

    Thanks for that.

I don't have VCDS or similar software...I used my friends one for Audi VW which worked on his Audi TT but doesnt on mine (my car is a few years newer). Is the garage is the best option any ideas what I would expect to pay?

    Hi c4a5er,

When i manually move the flap i feel the tension all the way round from open until closed. I was advise the unit had been tested as it comes with a 1 month warranty. I was actually sent another 1 prior to that but the plastic bit for the connector got broken during delivery so i was sent another. I could replace it with the original to see if there is any difference...unlikely i would be sent 2 faulty ones?!?

    A6_Chris,

The fault code is Intermittent Fault - Motor for Manifold Intake Flap. Research of forums and Ross-tech show it to either be Throttle body, EGR, Manifold Intake or an electrical issue. The electrical issue usually comes with an Aircon fault though.

I did check some fuses but couldn't see one that i was 100% sure would be the one? Any ideas what the correct fuse is?

    Thanks all.

There is a link on A6_Chris' signature. It's a map showing members that have VCDS they would do your job for small beer tokens. If you're keeping the car it's a good idea to buy your own VCDS

    Hi A6_Chris,

It was originally scanned at the Garage using their equipment. It hasn't been scanned again since the throttle body was replaced.

Thanks for the heads up on the map -There are 2 users near me which i can contact.

When you say "align" the Throttle body, does that just mean as it has come from a different car it needs to be tuned/aligned to mine? Is it a pretty straight forward process?

    Thanks

There's no alignment/adaptation required for this application...

Although it feels smooth when manually moving the flap it may not necessarily be smooth when the motor moves the flap so would still recommend a physical inspection just to eliminate beyond doubt...
If reluctant to open up the replacement unit you could open and examine the original failed unit.......if you find damaged gear teeth then to some extent you could assume the wiring etc is okay.

I seem to remember one incident on here where the valves motor or internal electrics failed.
