On Thursday evening I found myself in the outside lane of the M1 with no engine!! Luckily I managed to coast onto the hard shoulder and the RAC recovered me home, and then to the VW dealer the following morning. I find out tomorrow what the problem is..... But the lady at the VW dealer did say she suspected an injector and that she hoped VW would make a contribution towards the cost of the repair. After reading all this I think my first call tomorrow morning will be to VW CS to make sure the contribution towards the cost is 100% of it and to make sure all 4 injectors are replaced. After Thursday I don't really fancy repeating the experience - I might not be so lucky next time!!!

    Thanks for the offer!

I don't think it was a "fault" as such, a warning light came on & told me on the dashboard to follow the procedure in the manual which I did & it then cleared. No probs there to worry about!

My firm also make a DPF cleaner which I would use if needs be too.

Removal would be a last resort I guess!

    Gents,

    Hoping you can help me.

I have an 08 Passat TDI 170 DSG SEL Estate, does this effect my particular engine?

I called my local VW this morning about this and they are saying they have never heard of this problem and want to charge me for investigation work. They also said there are no outstanding coild pack recalls for my car. When i pointed out the car wouldn't have coil packs with it being a diesel it seemed to go right over her head.

Find another dealer mate, I know the service dept aren't mechanics, but mistaking the 1.8 petrol engine for a 2.0 PD isn't really inspiring is it.

Open your bonnet, if the fake manifolds on the engine cover look like this / / / you are ok, straight ones will indicate a PD engine and it will be one of those needing replacement, call VW customer services and open up with VOSA recall, they will then give you a case number and until you have one the dealer can't act further.

Now spoken to VW Customer Service, all is in hand.

Only thing that concerns me a little is, they are 95% sure that it has the defective part. However, if they open it up and find its not got the defective part then i will have to pay for the injectors to be removed.. how on earth can they not know?

One point, there is a rumour that a DPF will become an MOT requirement at some point on cars made after a certain date, roughly 2007.

A dpf is already required to drive in some european cities (cars as well as vans) so I wouldn't be surprised if it came to london at some point.

I'm having a hell of a time, dropped car off this morning at 0900, I rang at 4 to see what was going on, they said the injectors are fine and they suspect petrol contamination. I have never put petrol in and how can the injectors just be fine??! Really gutted!!
