    Heya folks,
I found this site by doing some research into buying a car and since this caters for both VW and Audi I thought it'd be the most suitable place to ask. For people who have owned either an 06 Passat or 05 A6 what are the opinions on them? I am upgrading from a 99 2 door 1.3l petrol toyota corolla because I have a 4 month old baby and I do a lot of motorway and A roads getting to and from work and my mileage has rocketed since I started.
I have been surprised to see that people recommend the 1.9TDI for the A6 given that it is a lot bigger than the average car that has the same cc, such as golfs or the A4.
What is the general feedback on the passat's new button handbrake? I test drove one a couple of weeks ago and found it very strange.
My budget is roughly £7,000 and I live in N.I. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

    Tim

Stoopis question really, it's basically the same car underneath, if you can afford the A6 then that is the one, lower dep, kerb kudos etc, face it no B6 is gonna outdo an A6.

I do not own either but i work on them on a weekly bassis, i would stay clear of either especially when you're used to toyota's build quality ! I would save me money and either buy a b6 audi a4 1.9 tdi estate or a final edition audi a6 1.9 tdi PD 130 Bhp. The early 2.0 Tdi engines are nothing but trouble in the a6/passat b6. If you really want the b6 passat, then the 1.9 Tdi is the one to go but its de-tuned at just 105 Bhp, remap will give a good 20-30Bhp.

I thought there was no such thing as a stupid question? I don't know that much about cars compared to a lot of people on here which's why I'm on here. What do you mean by lower dep? If you're going for a service and buying generic material from a company who aren't loyal to any car manufacturer will the parts for an A6 be much more expensive than those for a Passat?

My mechanic told me to stick with Toyota too. The only thing is the Avensis does nothing for me. How much worse is the build quality in either of the other cars than the Toyota? Why go for the estate over the saloon? By latest edition I'm assuming you mean a 2008 upwards model? I ain't made of money

    Thank you for the education.
