    Hi all,

As above, today I thought I will see what happens if I hold the esp switch for 10 secs, and straight after the light/sign dissapeared. I tried to press it again and the light would not come on.

I then got abit worried, so I turned the ignition off and turned it back on again, luckily it went back to normal.

Question is: What really happens when the ESP light dissappears after 10 secs?

I've seen this on the ESP systems of Mercs before. I don't know what the purpose is? But it's a fairly common thing.

Answer When you hold the button in it disables the ESP so you are driving the car with no traction control it will reset back when you turn the ignition off and back on

I should imagine it sets an error code about the switch being faulty and disables the system until a restart.

    Thats what it will do,

On the A4 you are unable to turn off all driving aids,

I think when the Traction control is off, the element of the ESP still stays in force..

This can be disabled via vag-com though

I have got a problem regarding the ESP switch, as I drive along sometimes the light comes on but when I try to switch it off it doesn’t work. Also sometimes it might come on and off by itself? I don’t think that this is normal, is it? Can anyone help..
