Yeah when I broke the costs down, VW wanted £420 for cam belt,and that was without the water pump either. I've decided to go just for the cam belt at the moment, as I'm sitting on 77K, if it hasn't been done, i'm 17k over due.

I'd get your water pump done at the same time, its right behind your cam belt

They wanted £203 for the pump and labour? Blimey, considering most of the gubbins is out of the way it seems steep?

The rest is almost 100% labour, Honda charge £72inc vat per hour. Makes me glad i know a man.

The same dealer above quoted £27 to supply and replace the water pump at the same time as the cambelt!!!
You are definately being ripped off mate!

No, No, the £623 was not from a dealer, was from a local garage.

Ive booked in at the local garage for the cambelt and waterpump which they will do for £350.

I think I'm gonna cry when my a4 3.0lt needs doing. 4 cams and all that It's the special tools you need to set the cams etc they cost so much and you only use them once otherwise i'd do it myself

It has four cambelts or camshafts? I can understand if it is the latter.

4 camshafts one belt and not a lot of room to work round

Dont know if this helps, but i had the cambelt and a full service done on my 2001 bora TDi and it cost me £145 for the cam belt and £120 for the service....although they may hav undercharged me for the cambelt slightly! that was a local garage though.
happy with the result too!
