im guessing you had a bad experience with a fiat? we've had 4 fiats in my family (brother had a y plate and an m plate punto, i had a brava and mother had one of the old saloons, cant remember the name) not a single one of which have ever let us down.

yes i did 3 times, first for a temp sender, second for a camshaft sensor, 3rd because the timing was out, which had caused the 2nd fault in the first place i spent around £800 in repairs in the 12 months of owning it, but i loved that car to pieces. 1.2 16v 80bhp, it cleaned the road with the likes of those chavvy corsas and alike. it carried me around for 12k miles without once missing a beat and it was hammered, i had 109mph out of it on a runway stretch and the car loved every minute of it....

you get EMS lights on any car, including golfs... no cars bomb proof

I would be devistated with 800 pounds worth of repairs in a year have also heard fiats are unreliable putting me off buying one.

it was my first car and trust me it was a lot of fun to drive despite it being a 5 door, it was suprisingly light, so went well with the 1.2 16v. it was the first few months of ownership that saw most of the faults, some of which were pre-existing. if i were to change cars away from the VAG range, id probably go for a stilo HGT.

I agree about the alfas... they are terrible for reliability issues and they aren't the prettiest cars either. as for the depreciation <gobsmacked> you wouldnt want to buy a brand new alfa, your bank manager would kill himself.
