    Dear All,
the exhaust emission warning lamp (yellow, engine shape) has been coming on intermittently (not blinking) and now stays on permernently. The guide book says its a lambda probe fault or o2 sensor, when I took the passat into a garage they said it could be a lot of things and not predominently the probe, they then said that they reset the computer, this cured it for a while but now the light has come back on, any ideas or is it mainly the probe that causes this light to come on,
    cheers hod.

Hi mate, didn't they do a diagnostic check on it before clearing fault?
Quite possibly is the lambda but I would have it checked at a different garage...

Depends on your confidence, but for less than £15 it may be better to get a Fleabay OBD2 lead to do some DIY reading.

I had a similar issue on my 2ltr 2001 passat,

after a check at my mechanic we found out that the problem was with the battery and not with the engine or exhaust system.

Worth a check, if your battery is weak, change it and see what happens
