right i have had a problem that has steadily got worse over the past 3 weeks. it started off feeling like a slight missfire but has now turned into more of a constant problem.

all is ok when the car is cold but give it 5 minutes to warm up and it will constantly not like it when i try and accelerate and will pop and bang, hesistate and just generally run like a bag of nails.

i havent had any engine management lights so dont know if vagcom would be of any use?

if anybody could shine some light on what might be causing it it would be massively appreciated. thanks

Petrol? Diesel? Engine code? Nevertheless, getting the fault codes read would be one of my top priorities.

I would think you have a faulty ignition amplifier (the unit bolted to the side of the air box unless you have a silly induction kit) and this normally kills the coil packs so you end up replacing the coil packs and amp. Replace either individually and if you get it wrong, one will kill the other so four new coil packs will be wrecked by a faulty amp and vice versa. I suggest you start with a fault code read, print, clear, drive and re-read, print and see what comes up.

cheers mate i am having the codes read tonight so will hopefully be a little wiser.
going back to your point about the induction kit unfortunately the car came with one fitted and i am currently seeking a standard replacement, but does this mean i have no amplifier? i have replaced 2 coil packs aswell and all seems well for a short while then the problem comes back.

    thanks for your help,much appreciated.

The amplifier should be on the air box, induction kits don’t mount the amplifier and its heat sink in the cooling flow of the induction air so they overheat and fail.
