My Bora started running lumpy or 'misfiring'. If it were a petrol engine I would be changing plugs and leads right now but as it is a diesel I'm stuck for ideas. There are other threads on various forums with similar faults but I can't find one that mentions the ASR (traction control) light coming on. It started this morning a few minutes into my journey so while coasting along I switched off the engine for a couple of seconds and re-started it and all was fine. I drove the car nearly 250 miles today without a repeat of the problem until I had got home, went back out (still ok) and then parked the car up. When I got back in and started the engine it was ticking over horrible and was juddering when driving. I got home and checked the fuel was ok as I had filled up last night and though it could be crap fuel but it looked ok. The clutch was replaced last year before I bought the car (I have seen posts re the dual mass flywheel) and it was serviced 2 weeks ago, the second since I bought it in March as I do a lot of miles and have done 12000 since March 08 (4 months) I had it serviced not long after purchase when the 'service now' indicator came on and did it again when it lit again recently. Until today I have had no problems. The car is Re mapped to approx 160bhp

    Please advise.

I see this a lot. A fault code read will probably show an injector malfunction which can be the injector (nasty) or the in head harness, which is easy to do and a very common problem.

I drove it to work this morning, on 3, and got the AA to come out and plug it in to his laptop. Unfortunately there were no current or stored faults but he gave the same advice, suggesting the injector wiring loom was probably at fault. He mentioned BMW use a similar system which is also prone to fault. I have today spent £42.17 on a new wiring harness which I will be fitting tonight.

Job done everyone. Fitted the Injector loom and she lives again.

Thanks for all your help, this forum must pull so many people out of 5h!t by giving sound advice.

Hope this short thread helps someone else diagnose the same fault.

    Thanks again.

Hi I have had an almost identical problem with my VW Sharan 1.9TDi 90bhp. The only difference being is I haven't any warning lights on. Can you tell where you sourced your loom? I believe the engines in the Bora and Sharan are the same? Thanks

Hi. I firmly believe the TC light was simply due to vibration, which as my car is lowered and on Spax suspension it is a bit stiffer than your Sharan so the light may be coincidence. I got the loom from my local VW dealer at £42.17 all in. It took under an hour to fit. Hope this helps.

The traction control light comes on due to the ABS ECU seeing a power delivery fault in the engine ECU; if you have the ABS scanned it will have code "01314 - Engine Control Module 013 - Check DTC Memory"

The 90PS TDI engine is not a PD engine (100, 115, 130 and 150PS) and does not have a in head loom as the injectors are mounted externally and are supplied with fuel from an external distributor pump.

I guess that rules that out then. Good luck anyway.

Actually tell a lie there is a warning light on my dashboard, its the brake pad warning light, not sure if this is connected? My engine is the ANU which I believe is 90bhp? Its a 2000 model new shape. Took off rocker cover had a little "play" about with the wiring and it seemed to sort it. Well for 4 days, problem back again. Going to order new loom and fit so watch this space. Also can you advise me how the wiring connectors detach from the injector itself? thanks
