    Hi.
    when the car has been sitting out in the heat it will not turn over at all.
    all the dash lights come on but nothing happens.
    i hae just had a new solanoid fitted in the starter so this is not the problem.
    i was wondering if it could have something to d0o with the heat resister on the starter or the the ignition circuit?
    when the weather is cool it has no problems starting at all

    i would start with simple things. it sounds like the starter has been messed with recently so i would check the power cables to the starter and the earth . just check for tightness and remove them and check for corrosion ect clean up re-fit and try.

    dont know what you mean by a resistor on the starter circut
    what is your car - year, model, engine code and i should be able too find the wiring diagram on my autodata and ill tell you exactly what there is in the circut

    sorry just looked at the start of this post .
    ok looked at the starter circut and there is nothing but the key switch in the circut, so the only things are dodgy key switch/ any connectors on the wire from the key switch to the starter solenoid.
    unless you have an automatic which has a inhibitor relay incase you start the car in gear ect.
    must be something basic.

    hi.
    do you mean the ignition barrel? and if so how do i get to it?
    it looks like i will have to take off the steering column only i dont want to disurb the air bag. {but i can't see how to take it off}
    the car is a manual so there is no inhibitor.
    thank you by the way for being so helpful it is appriciated

    yes its the ignition barrell. you get to it by removing the lower plastic cowling just behind the steering wheel. look from underneath there should be some holes in it with some screws up there pull that off and you should be able to get at it. get a multimeter in there and see what its doing when it wont start . according to my information the wire to the starter is the red/black. meter that wire to the red and there should be continuity when the key is turned fully to the start position. hth
