Hi everyone I'm new on here and hope you can help me.

I have a 2002 year A6 2.5tdi Auto with gearbox problems and need to find a used replacement box.

I notice a few available on ebay etc. and just wondered what other models share this box if any and what age of car also.

Would the box require any pre programming or setting up before fitting or can it just be put in and pugged straight into ECU?

Any help would be much appreciated.

You have given insufficient information to warrant anyone bothering to reply. What type of auto box is it, code etc, mileage etc. what are the symptoms. Has a garage looked at it and what is their view on what is wrong? Put some effort into your post and others will respond.

Put some effort into my post? That's just charming mate, you're just the type of person I need right now when I'm looking for advice.

It's been into Audi and they tell me it needs a new box. Simple as

Other than not stating it is a multitronic 6 speed (I think) I'm not sure what more effort I was supposed to add. I didn't waste anyones time by trying to ask for advice on whats wrong as I already know it's goosed.

I'm sorry I'm not a complete expert or smart **** like yourself but a reply with some advice on where to find these codes would have been a bit more helpfull don't you think?

Might be best if I try somewhere else where I might find some patience and some basic manners.

Thanks for the warm welcome to the forum

If you could tell us what the gearbox did when it failed, that would be helpful. The Multitronics are known to fail, it's quite clear that they are not up to scratch. I hope you manage to find a solution to your problem.

Youll find the gearbox code on a paper sticker in the spare wheel well. dont listen to Audi there answer to all gearbox probs is to replace the box. Talk to a few auto box tech companies first!!

The main problem is that when you try and pull away you press the throttle but nothing happens until it revs to about 2000 revs or more then it kicks in with a bang. The car drives at speed more or less ok with just a slight 'miss' on the transmission now and again. It also kind of shudders when you pull up to stop as if it's still trying to drive. The Audi garage tell me it is the clutch pack assembly on the gearbox that is completely shot. I'll need to replace the gearbox.

I picked the car up from them today and hope to find a used gearbox somewhere at a decent price. Only thing is I don't know what other models of Audi this box was fitted to. Where do I find the important numbers to show the gearbox type?

    Again, thanks for any help

If it's the clutch pack, these can be repaired, however the one thing the multitronic if famous for its problems.

The one advantage of a new box is warrenty, the down side being the price.

Search on multitronic boxes, and you will fnd a couple of recommended repair shops, though they are rare

Hi, first you will need a fault code diagnostic, then that will tell more or less if the fault is mecanichal, hydraulic or electronic...these g.boxes are complicated pieces of kit ! Clutch packs are known to fail on the tiptronic and they were updated to the 7 plates clutches ! The dealers are just plain useless...
