This is my first post and I really could do with some help so here we go.
Sorry if I bore you too much with my story, but I desperately need some advice to solve my problems!
I have owned my 2001 Golf GT TDI 115BHP for four years now and recently due to losing water have had to have a new head gasket job done, with it being skimmed, pressure tested, a new water pump, cam belt kit, thermostat and expansion tank cap.
After parting with some serious cash to pay for it I was told my turbo had blown and it would have to be replaced! Nice hey... Not!
I sourced another turbo, fitted it and off I went, all seemingly happy.
However, short lived happiness it turned out to be!
On my return home from Devon to Essex the car went through four litres of water! I was not a happy chap, needless to say the following morning I was on the phone complaining to the garage that repaired my Golf, they somewhat unhappily said to return the car to them to see what had gone wrong, but they couldn’t understand it as they had been doing this kind of work for years without many problems.
A few miles into the trip to return the car to the garage some strange noises started, followed by bellowing smoke and check engine oil light, yep another turbo bites the dust!
The AA guy who recovered me said that the oil mixing with water had probably led to turbo failure as the turbo relies heavily on the synthetic oil viscosity for being properly cooled and lubricated, words that I repeated to the garage the next day, funnily enough that was greeted by, never trust a AA or RAC man they don’t know what they are talking about! What a surprise, they flatly refused to accept that idea, but accepted they would look into why there is still a water loss problem, and started by pressure testing the oil cooler, which was fine apparently, to me just looking for a way out of repairing my car without being paid.
However it left me needing to find another turbo, which luckily I have but I’m not sure if it will fit my model?
This is where I desperately need help…
    My turbo number is 038253019C
The turbo I have found has the number 038253019A will this fit mine?
Also has anyone any idea why my Golf would be losing so much water after having all the above work done? It’s worse now than before I had the work done!
Thanks in advance, a desperately ticked off man!!

have you pressure checked the coolant system?
if you have been driving with no water this could cause the turbo to blow

The 038 253 019 C went to 03G 253 016 L and then 03G 253 014 R. The 038 253 019 A has changed to 03G 253 016 K and this only appears to fit 4-Motion models with the AJM 115PS engine. The other point is one that I keep making a lot, although you won’t have seen it, VAG state “Reworking diesel cylinder heads is not permissible” which means it is not permitted to reface (skim) these heads.

Thanks for your suggestions, yeah have had the water system pressure checked, the garage that did it for me i have my doubts about, its time to kick some butts and get some answers i reckon! although the check water level dash light had been regularly coming on , as soon as it did i always stopped and topped it up, so it had never run out and overheated and has always been a steady 90.

Thanks for the info Crasher, i will have to have a conversation with the guy who has "supposed" to have done the head job? seems very wierd that after everything he said had done to the car for it to go wrong again, prehaps i have been stripped of a lot of money for repairs that didnt actually happen! its it a case of a replacement head if the original was warped?

If the head is warped more than 0.1-mm diagonally across is length, it must be replaced. There are a lot of companies selling recon heads for the PD and they all seem to skim the head which you should not do. New castings are available from VAG (silly money, nearly £1k bare and £2.5k fully built up including injectors, which is actually very good value) but also from other sources.
