passat azm engine noisy tappets?

hi there i have a 2001 2.0 passat estate auto fitted with the azm engine,when accelerating tappets seem to be a bit noisy but go back to being fine when cruising anyone had the same problems at all ...........the cars only done 53000miles ,thought maybe changing the hydraulic tappets all eight of them as i am having timing belt and water pump done for the 60000 mile service any one with simlalr probs let me know cheers jay

wots the history on the car has it been seviced regulary is the correct oil in it???

Histrory All Up To Date By The Book Been Serviced Last At 45000 Just Before I Bought It.. But Was Done At Independent Garage Not Main Dealers,also Serviced By Myself When Aquiring The Car ,descoverved A Crack In The Sump So I Have Just Bought A New Sump To Fit When It Has 60000 Service This Week Even Though Its Only On 53000 The Old One Has Been Sealed Temporary So Dosnt Leak It Might Of Been Driven With Low Oil By The Previous Owner As They Did Nt Mention The Car Had A Split Sump This Is What Makes Me Think Tappets Could Do With Changeing,i Have Also Serviced It With Gen Parts And Gen Oil Correct Grade Thought While Doing Cambelt And Waterpump On 5 Mins To Remove Tappets Bit Of A Lie But U Know What I Mean ,looks As Though It Been Serviced Regular

I could be barking up the wrong tree, but are you sure its tappets? This statement makes me think of a blowing exhaust manifold, either a crack or gasket problem? Tappets are noisy in line with rpm, but an exhaust blow can sound the same and gets worse at higher throttle openings

hi thanks ,i think it is tappets but i will check exhaust when i have it in the garage this week,exhaust gasket and studs and nuts are cheaper than tappets so i will check it shall let u know the outcome next week,some hard work going on this week lol changing sump,timing belt and water pump,hopefully to give me some smooth effortless driving to southern ireland in the summer......jay

53000 seems a bit premature for tappet failure to me
