    Hi
Do you have any fault codes showing ?
i remember seeing on another post on here that a fault in the head harness always sets a code.

my awx engine has a vibration / misfire at about 1800 rpm that i havent been able to solve.
Its become less noticeable now than it was almost 2 years ago when i first got the car.

vibration between 1600 and 2000 rpm seems to be a "feature" of vag diesels.

I've been slowly coming round to that suggestion but whats putting me off getting the clutch and flywheel done (apart from the cost ) is that when i got the car first the vibration was there between 1600 and 2000 rpm and now its only noticeable exactly on 1800 rpm and it hasnt gotten worse it has actually improved significantly

Its been like that for 30k miles now and is there whether its hot or cold in gear out of gear clutch in clutch out e.t.c. but is actually less noticeable that it was 2 years ago and on a couple of occasions it has all but gone.
at its worst it was like the my old triumph when the timing is off.
The only thing ive noticed is that any time i think hey the vibration isnt noticeable the tank is normally around 2/3 full i dont think thats anything more than coincidence though.

Hi Chaps,I have not scanned for any codes yet & currently with the cost of scanning for any fault codes it will cost me roughly £30, so I've bitten the bullet and I'm going to replace the injector harness later on this afternoon.I'm also toying with the idea of buying a hand held code scanner for about £80ish.I guess this will pay for its self and will allow me to check up on things as and when necessary.I have looked on ebay for a vagcom cable and disc but I've read mix reviews on them, this would be the cheaper option though about £15 to £50. Will keep you all up to date o how I get on with the harness swap.Cheers,Dan

I understand that the injectors must be sat in the correct position ie set distances apart to allow for the fuel flow but I don't understand the need for the dti apart from for the process of setting the injector height as stated in the reploi from Alan02.
Is the dti used to set the injector up square? What is the Jig?

I'm hoping that it is the injector harness however it looks like a bit of a tight job (there is limited space between the back of the head and the bulkhead)getting the new harness in.
Will I need to warm the new harness up to allow it to bend to insert it into the head or are new ones more flexable?

    Cheers,

    Dan
Not sue if this is any help but I recently changed my Injector harness.
    Cheers

    Hello Chaps,

Thanks for the reply VROOoooom, I did manage to replace the harness on Sunday arvo. It looks like you have made a good guide of how to replace the harness, feel free to ask me any questions about what I have done so far to cure this annoying problem we both seem to have

We had fun and games when removing the old harness, it managed to snap causing a small pice of black plastic to fall into the head.
After some time and alot of searching with the worlds most powerful cycle torch we found it ontop of no3 cylinder tappet.

Managed to get it out with the use of a cable tie and loo paper.

We heated up the new harness with a hot air gun in the same place where the old harness broke and bobs your uncle in it went with no fuss at all.
We also removed the solid boost hose from the back of the engine( at the same time I check to see if the erg valve was not blocked in anyway and found it was clear of any carbon build up, a bit oil layer inside though).

So far I think it has improved the judder but there still is a very slight something but I'm beeing picky now however I'm now waiting for my Autel VAG code reader to be delivered so I can scan for any codes.

    I'll keep you all posted.

Please feel free to keep the replys coming.

I hope that I can help anyone else in this position that I'm in.

Oh I'm also going to have a go with the Forte injection cleaner to see if that helps.

    Cheers,

    Dan

Have you run the car with the EGR vac hose off? (Simply pull hose off EGR and plug free end of hose).

My old AWX Passat stuttered a bit when first started. No codes nothing. I unplugged the EGR and it cured it. Never did reconnect it.
