    Hi all

I have been looking for info, but the closest I get is Question Audi A6 C7 MMI screen size upgrade and Upgrade RMC to MMI 3G

I bought a C7 Pre-facelift (2014) and I had absolutely not idea about the MMI product lines and turns out that I have an RMC product in my car. It looks like it is still on factory software and map, which means it is dated 2014. I have used the Navigation function and that was a big let down. I had to revert to using the mobile phone.

So i took my frustration to Audi and eventually got to talk to a nice young technician (don't bother with Doreen at the front desk, she's not long for this world).
The guy told me that, on this platform and with this year, it is either RMC or 3G.
This seems to concur with the info found on this forum and on the web.

I am now looking into ripping the whole thing out and getting the 3Gplus installed. so that is:

    - New 8'' Monitor (widescreen)
    - New HDD-based system MMI (60Gb)
    - New control panel that goes around the gear selector (touchpad as opposed to buttons)

    Few questions though:

    1. Anybody already done this conversion?
    2. Is it worth it; realistically speaking in am looking for reliable and integrated SatNav
    3. My car has the regular Audio system so no Bose
    4. Can somebody confirm the part list. I would imagine this could be valuable on this forum
    5. How much would this cost?
    6. Is there a business out there that can do this at a professional level

Can it be done, yes (MMi 3G Plus HD Navigation (iPod video, A2DP, Bluetooth, Postcode & DVD) | HappyDayz). Is it worth it, at about £3k almost certainly not. Buying a well specced Garmin or TomTom or using your phone is likely to be the most economical option

I had the RMC in my last A6 which was a 2012 model, I now have the Tech pack in my 2015 Allroad, the difference? Not a great deal, yes the screen is bigger and I can use live traffic on the screen when hooked up to internet, but in all honesty I would stick with what you have, put music on an SD card and go buy a TomTom etc for when you need to find somewhere. Save your money.

Don't want to sound like a broken record but CarPlay retrofit does the job for me. Yes, low small screen resolution sucks but pros of carplay exceeds cons of RMC screen size.

You are welcome here Artheb! i saw your thread about retrofitting Chinese module, great write up, so much so that I had to reconsider a previously discarded option.

My issue is the SatNav; it is just old and lagging. And on RMC, you have to fork out dough in order to update (been quoted £250 and £500 from dealers as activation and Central registration is needed). In the long term that is not sustainable.

    Questions:
    1. Have you made any videos of the thing in use? (I think I have seen a video of your install???)
I also saw you ended up going for a wired option and I think I would prefer that as well, being a comms engineer.
    2. But is it possible to use 1 cable for all channels? I want to plug the phone in, drop it in the armrest and forget about it. All functions must be accessible from the car's controls. (Otherwise you'd have to get the phone out in which case the cable become a hinder).

    3. How reliable is the handsfree function when carplay is relaying G-Maps/Waze on screen?
    4. How good does it work when you have music playing from the radio/MMI and Maps wants to announce the next instruction. Does it duck the sound?

    Questions:
    1. Have you made any videos of the thing in use? (I think I have seen a video of your install???)
Answer: I have not made any video, I can make one. The install video is provided by Chinese guys.

I also saw you ended up going for a wired option and I think I would prefer that as well, being a comms engineer.
Answer: Yes, I used wired because I still use MMI for handsfree. I have kind of dual-setup. Wired CarPlay for control + MMI Bluetooth for calls with steering wheel control and audio streaming.
You can use CarPlay only for everything but then you cannot make or answer calls from the steering wheel and will use CarPlay MIC for calls. Hope you know what I mean.

    2. But is it possible to use 1 cable for all channels? I want to plug the phone in, drop it in the armrest and forget about it. All functions must be accessible from the car's controls. (Otherwise you'd have to get the phone out in which case the cable become a hinder).
Answer: it is 1 cable connection. All the controls are accessible from the audi central console. It is really well integrated with original MMI controls except steering wheel.

    3. How reliable is the handsfree function when carplay is relaying G-Maps/Waze on screen?
Answer: you need to exit the MAP to make a call but can return to MAP once call is established.

    4. How good does it work when you have music playing from the radio/MMI and Maps wants to announce the next instruction. Does it duck the sound?
Answer: I actually did not try MAP instruction, I hate it and have it disabled on any MAP I use. I don't use MMI radio anymore. All Radio is played via phone from TuneIN and music from Spotify.

My dual-setup with CarPlay and MMI bluetooth is not recommended by the manufacture and I consider it as my own hack to achieve almost perfect integration. Sometimes I need to select audio streaming target manually between CarPlay and MMI bluetooth but I don't mind. I use it every day since I installed it. I think it's great!

    I hope that helps.

My unit is still working. The original listing is gone but this is the shop I bought it from.

ZHOYITO JoyeAuto Store - Amazing prodcuts with exclusive discounts on AliExpressÂ*Mobile

I did a quick look around and I think you can find a unit which uses the car built in microphone now. Microphone quality is the only thing I could complaint for. Well, not me, people I talk to over the loud speaker.
