Hi Have a slight problem with the filler flap, not the round cap, but the outer flap. Just went to fill up and the flap would not open, locked and unlocked the car but still stuck closed. Came back home to investigate, found the manual release cord, gave it a pull but felt nothing release just solid when I pulled it, flap still locked. Then managed to get it to release by pumping it quite hard against the slight spring action. The pin that is spring loaded moves freely and has the correct action and I can open the flap, but, it no longer locks when the car is locked, i.e. it can be opened at any time. Therefor I am suspecting an electrical problem, Do any of you know the workings of the flap locking system, and any known problems. Thanks in advance...

This is a known problem with A6s. I had mine replaced under the warranty.

Mine would occasionally not lock/unlock. Never had to use the manual release tho... If I were you, I'd check if possible to pull the fuse so it does not lock (as you had a problem opening it).

Thanks, yes considered I may need to try something like that until I can get it sorted but would suspect the fuse would be for the whole central locking, not a good idea if so, hoping the solenoid has failed and it will remain unlocked. Strange thing was the fact that the release cord did not offer any resistance, was just solid, would have suspected a slight resistance then some sort of release action, like pulling back a locking pin. Almost every 8K A4, A5 and A6 of this era shows a fuel filler flap lock fault code when scanned, easy to replace though, unclipmthe painted cover, snap out the box at the four marked points, fit a new box and motor, clip on the flap.

Had to do mine last year on my A6, the mechanism is approx £22 from the dealers, takes 20mins to sort out. Do it sooner rather than later or you be locked out of your fuel door.

Seems a common issue. My A4 B6 Avant filler flap doesn't lock. Read a bit about it and seems a pain to replace so I haven't. At least it's broken the good way though!

I had the same problem, the flap wouldn't open, but repeated pressing lock/unlock while pushing the flap would eventually open it. As said before it is an issue with the solenoid, there is a revised solenoid available now, so the problem won't come back once you replace it.
I got the parts direct from Audi, they cost me E58, the guy in Audi recommended I replace the facia as well as the solenoid, because the facia will usually get damaged during removal, it was sound advice, I replaced both parts, took 20mins and no problems since.

Another Jammed Fuel Flap - Page 2

    There are two separate issues:
First the bayonet keeping the flap closed - even when not locked - sticks due to dirt accumulated. This might be solved by repeatedly pushing and teasing the flap. Clean the counterpart (see link on top pf the post) and cross you fingers.
Second, solenoid locking the flap when closed breaks electrically. Flap stays closed but will not lock or might not unlock. Grab you wallet and visit the marble desk...
