Steamy Windows

Right i bought a 97 A4 1.9 TDI SE 110 and the heater only ever put out luke warm air at best i did a flush of the system in case the heater matrix was blocked i refilled with coolant now if i put the heater on at all it just steams up the windows in the car i have to drive round with the the temp set on lo and everything is fine but as soon as i turn the heat up to even 18 O/c it gives out a puff of smoke through the vents and it,s steamy windows time again There's a faint smell thats like hot rubber but the system does not seem to be airlocked.
Am i missing something

You have a leak hence the steam.

Would that cause the smell as well!!

Oh yes and you may note you are lossing some water as well.

It sounds like the matrix is leaking this would account for the smell and the steam.M

I take it that means the dash has to come out to get at it:zx11:

Not sure about that I hope not as my A4 heater is poor and I suspect a blocked matrix haha.M

Not a nice thing to look forward to.

Neither is the thought of getting into a cold car in this weather any info from other members most welcome I'm finding it hard to turn corners with 4 coats on:D M
