Re: Unable to get any gears
Pressure plate broken theeths. You will need a new clutch kit. Have a look underneath for broken linkage if no sign of it, then is the clutc pressure plate. Are the brakes ok ?
Re: Unable to get any gears
More likely the drivshaft stripped it's splines. I can't remember which one it is that goes. It's quite well known on the T5. Ask the dealer if they will do a goodwill claim.
The bit that strips is not at either end, it's like a two piece shaft and the bit that goes is three quarters of the way along.
Re: Unable to get any gears
My daughter's T5 174bhp/6-speed did same thing on Saturday evening. Moved off, bang, no drive. Gear selector engages in gate fine just no drive.
Of course no idea where the towing eye was....:zx11:...so looped rope round front suspension for a slow 400 yard tow home.
It's gone to her local garage now, will report back.
Re: Unable to get any gears
Hi I have seen this happen a couple of times and it was the right gearbox stub shaft which had stripped its splines
Re: Unable to get any gears
So is that new drive shaft or what? Sorry but no knowledge of Vdub bits as I am actiually a Volvo man :( but looking for solutions to my daughter's problems.
I do actually have a little bit of Vdub bits in that the rear brake calipers on my Westfield are from a Golf!!! :o
Re: Unable to get any gears
If it is as i suspect you will need a new stub shaft, and a new drive shaft
Re: Unable to get any gears
Reported as new drive shaft, not sure which side, my daughter didn't ask. Repair with part is about £550 inc VAT. For info, car is coming up 5 years old, done 86k and always been used as domestic rather than commercial.
Is it likely the other side will go bang too?
Oh! And thanks for f/b.
Re: Unable to get any gears
Hi It has only been the right side so far.The left and right consruction is a bit different
Re: Unable to get any gears
That's some comfort, thanks.
I guess that the system is asymetric in common with many vehicles' installation.
