Driving home from Scarborough up Staxton Hill this morning in by 2005 T5 transporter the gears disengauged whilst driving & unable to obtain any gears. There were no strange noises on it doing this & the gear stick & selecter are moving normally, although there is a lot of play on the selector to the gearbox.
Can any body assist, got to ring vw tomorrow but it is 3 years & 4 mths old so I guess the warrenties out.
Any help would be much appreciated

    Cheers

Pressure plate broken theeths. You will need a new clutch kit. Have a look underneath for broken linkage if no sign of it, then is the clutc pressure plate. Are the brakes ok ?

More likely the drivshaft stripped it's splines. I can't remember which one it is that goes. It's quite well known on the T5. Ask the dealer if they will do a goodwill claim.

The bit that strips is not at either end, it's like a two piece shaft and the bit that goes is three quarters of the way along.

My daughter's T5 174bhp/6-speed did same thing on Saturday evening. Moved off, bang, no drive. Gear selector engages in gate fine just no drive.

Of course no idea where the towing eye was.......so looped rope round front suspension for a slow 400 yard tow home.

It's gone to her local garage now, will report back.

Hi I have seen this happen a couple of times and it was the right gearbox stub shaft which had stripped its splines

So is that new drive shaft or what? Sorry but no knowledge of Vdub bits as I am actiually a Volvo man but looking for solutions to my daughter's problems.

I do actually have a little bit of Vdub bits in that the rear brake calipers on my Westfield are from a Golf!!!
