Having looked at the instrument section using vcds my vehicle mileage reads 40936 miles but the ecu says it is 55908, that is a massive difference and I wondered how easy it is to clock a b6 passat.....vagcom expects a 5% difference but this is 15000 miles.

any info would be appreciated.

I am new to vag com but reading until my eyes bleed.

seems a bit out but i wouldnt have thought someone would have gone to the trouble of clocking it for 15k miles?

as above really. why not try checking it again in 100 miles and see if both have gone up by the same amount.

The EDC calculation is never that much out, usually a few hundred miles at most. 15K is about 1 years average mileage and can make a fair difference to the value, would be easy to cover up and not raise any suspicions in most cases.

thanks for the replies, I have been told by the local dealership that a 15000 mile descrepancy is not possible within the realms of normality so I guess that it has probably been altered or had a secondhand ecu fitted at some point.

As Crasher has pointed out 15000miles is easy to hide and all of the service schedule books etc are in good order with what look like lowish mileage between services, so perhaps it had a really high mileage year and the previous owner or garage wound it back for warranty or value purposes.

Secondhand ECUs are hard to code in and usually becomes a dealer job, so the likelyhood of a secondhand ECU being fitted is quite low to be honest.

I would suggest that your car has had the mileage altered at some point in it's life.

Thanks for that Mr shark..it looks extremely likely that scullduggery is the answer LOL I am probably best just living with it, I suppose 15k is more palatable than say 40-50 or 60k.

I can't get the EDC calculation to work at all on my b6.
Any ideas why this would be? Engine is BKP

It does seem to be erratic; I have found very few cars that it works on but then again I don’t try it very often, just if I have a few minutes to spare and I remember to try it.
