Please can anyone tell me how to reset a B5 passat service light with
VCDS software. I reset it the usual way thro the adaption 40-49 in the
order it tells you but when you press the spanner on the dash its saying a service is due in 5000miles?

Also im wanting to change the rear brake pads but wasnt sure if my software would wind the calipers back? Ive found this procedure and wondered if anybody knows if this works?

Open Rear Parking Brake

Procedure

Cycle the Parking Brake ON, then OFF first.

• Select

• (53 Parking Brake)

• (Basic Settings)

• In Channel enter “007”

• Press (OK)

• The Brake callipers will then open, allowing the pads to be changed

• Press (OK)

• Press (BACK) to Exit from Module

• It is normal for the LED in the parking brake switch and the warning lamp in the instrument
cluster to blink rapidly at this point.

Close Rear Parking Brake

Procedure

• Select

• (53 Parking Brake)

• (Basic Settings)

• In Channel enter “006”

• Press (OK)

• The brake callipers will then close

• Press (OK)

• Press (BACK) to Exit from Module

• The LED in the parking brake switch and the warning lamp in the instrument cluster will
probably continue to blink rapidly. This should stop after cycling the Parking brake ON,

Thanks in advance:beerchug:

What cable and software version are you using? I doubt the shareware version would do the calliper rewind function. if you have the newer version look here

To reset service on B6 use SRI reset on first screen. It gives you all the options. I haven't tried the rear pad change yet, so can't comment , but assume it works ok as no-one has said it doesn't.

Its VCDS Release 908.2
Data version 20100326
Cable is a HEX+CAN
Dual-k&CAn USB

The SRI feature should work flawlessly when using the current VCDS release 908.2. It sounds like you changed the time and mileage values in the adaptation values 40-49. Please choose "General Service Reset" from the drop down menu.

If you are looking to increase the mileage intervals please post the Auto-Scan.

The 3C Passat brake procedure should work perfectly fine as long as you follow all of the instructions on the Wiki. The most important part is connecting a battery charger!

Thanks for that, Why is it important to have a battery charger on?

High drain on the battery I would guess with engine not running. ;)

If the voltage drops, the central electrics module will flag a fault. This can upset the brakes, esp, steering etc. A charger stops the voltage falling.

In a few instances, we have had reports of the 53 module locking up and you cannot recover without replacing the module. VW and Audi both make the recommendation. I would advise you to adhere to their recommendation.
