How difficult is it to renew the anti roll bar bushes at the front ens of a passat tdi (2003)??

Had car in for service yesterday and they advised the clunking noise ive been hearing may be worn bushes. If its cheap enough, i may get the independent to do it. Any ideas on price at independents?

Can anyone shed any light on the above? if there are any pics to accompany the above job, it'd be helpful.

Thank you

A "C" shaped link with a rubber bush in each end joins the roll bar to the track control arm. The links cost about £30 each from VW. Simple nut and bolt job as long as nothing is siezed.
Don't tighten bolts until car is back on the ground.

Yes, always tighten any rubber bush with the car on the ground, (VW say with 75Kg weight in the front seats and full tank of fuel).

If you tighten in the air, the metal bush in the centre of the rubber is locked when the car is in the air, then when you lower it, it turns and twists the rubber bush up like a clock spring. Then when you go over a bump, it twists further than it was designed to and rips past it's elastic limit and is ruined.

Hi Mark

Just done the Anti roll bar bush's not the c shape drop links yet and it was simple

Lemforder from Euro Car parts for £11 for 2 and did it on the drive with Jack - ramps nad axel stand and only undoing the the front underside plastice cover...

Use the ramps under the wheels for when you let it back down before tightning the bracket..

Give the car a good bounce at the front before you fully tighten...

C Shape anti roll bar links next.... im looking at £52 for lemforder from ECP

Good Luck :approve:
