Had my A4 S-Line Exec for 5 weeks now and love it but :zx11: me, no glovebox light. Part of the interior light option. Must be the only car on the market that does not have this as standard. I have a little fold out box for my sunglasses and a cargo net in the boot as standard but no bloody glovebox light.

I appreciate that lights were frowned upon in the 1940's but this is 2009 and we have moved on!

Is it possible to either retro-fit this myself or get it done at a dealer as plugging my ipod in when it's dark is a bit hit & miss at the moment.

I agree, no glove box light is rubbish, also is the fact that I don't own any pairs of sunglasses that fit in the sunglasses holder :zx11:

Mine's got a light!

Edit: Sorry - I thought you said you DID have the light pack, but still no glove box light.
The light pack should definitely be part of standard equipment.

This is why whenever any one asks about options I say light pack.

It's actually an outrage that Audi don't put this in as standard. They are ripping the **** out of customers.

Though still not sure why I bothered with the Storage Pack - the "storage compartment under the front seats" is so small it's next to useless.

And if you have the memory seats, there isn't even a micro storage thingy under the driver's seat...... I wanted it for the nets behind the front seats, bloody expensive nets :aargh4:

Me too - and in 3.5 months, they haven't been used at all!

Yes there is..

Well.. there is on mine. I have storage pack and Comfort Pack (memory seats)

Send yours back. get a new one.

All sorted.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Philips-SpotOn-Light-Silver-Pack/dp/B001BPB8PE/ref=pd_sim_light_1

Can get them in black, white or silver. Cannot find details of the size but several sites tout them as useful for gloveboxes. Apparently Asda do something similar & cheaper for a pack of 2. I'll let you know how i get on.

Another one up for the Brits. If i ever bump in to the Director of Audi, Herr imsotightisqueekwheniwalkmeister, i'll ask him if he wants his car washed then ask if he wants to pay extra for soap!

Really, under the driver's seat? There is one under the passenger's seat but I'm fairly sure even the Audi brochures etc specify that there isn't one under the driver's seat.

To be honest, I've not looked as I was lead to believe it wasn't there.

I reckon my dealer would have a heart attack if I tried to return the car as unfit for purpose or miss-sold or something due to a missing, teeny weeny little storage thingy I would never put anything in anyway. I suppose it's just about big enough for a mars bar.......

It's just the right size for your glasses (in a glasses case) and a pair of sunshades. Almost makes up for the glasses holder not being the right size for your glasses! :)

Ok, I just had a look and I do have one!

How exciting :)

Silly me for believing the Audi catalogue

Must admit my sadly departed 2 year old Honda Civic 2.2 Diesel Sport had a lot more accessories than my new A4.....light in glovebox, vent for A/C in glovebox, lock for glovebox, larger glovebox, lights in vanity mirrors, pockets in back seats, oil dipstick the list goes on...........................................

I haven't got the glove box light either, so after reading this I've had a look through my copy of elsawin and etka and have found out the wiring method for a retro fit and the parts needed. Gonna order the parts and hope to do it in half term week.

I will post a 'how to' afterwards

well I've had a go at this and it wasn't as hard as I'd originally thought. before I go any further though, the following is what I have done and should not be taken as advice for others to follow. I am by no means a vehicle electrician so if you follow this then at your own risk :approve:

http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa61/pns2007/a4glovebox.jpg

The above image is for a left hand drive car, reverse it (in your mind) for a right hand drive.

First remove the panel lettered x above, this just pulls off with a hard pull. Fingers only needed! Then pull off the end dash board panel which will reveal the fuses and the fuse holder (Handbook will give further info)

There are seven bolts (lettered 'A' in the diagram) which are holding the glove box in position. Undo all of these. Bolt A1 is inside the glove box at the top behind the cd changer (if you have one) if you haven't you should be able to see it. Bolt A2 is below the fuse holder.

The glove box will then be supported by two or three small plastic hooks (marked 'C' in the diagram), carefully support the glove box and manouvre it so that it becomes detached. Lower it to the floor of the car but be careful to make sure there are no wires caught.

It will then look a bit like this:-

http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa61/pns2007/P1000529.jpg

You will need to buy the following parts:-

Glove box light - part number UBD0 947 415 - £6.30

2 Plastic connectors - part number U893 971 632 - £1.53 each

2 repair wires - part number U000 979 133 - £1.16 each (all above subject to VAT - I did manage a 5% discount aswell))

The repair wires have the correct contacts for pushing into the plastic connecotrs, push each end of the repair wire into the plastic connector. Plug one of the plastic connectors into the light. Feed the wire through (from the inside of the glove box - the space for the light will allready be cut out) and click the light into place. Assemble it to look like this:-

Light in position:-

http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa61/pns2007/P1000531.jpg

Plug the other plastic connector into the glove box damper (Audi call it a break) shown by the letter 'Y' in the following photo. This is the actual switch which turns the light on and off when opening and clsoing the glove box (I thought I would need to buy this but it was already there) :biglaugh:

http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa61/pns2007/P1000528-1.jpg

Cut one of the wires in half. One half will go to ground, the other half to a positive connection. A little planning might be needed here to ensure you have enough cable. You will need to add additional cable to the positive connection so cut the wire to give you a long enough length for the ground connection.

I used the hole in the support bracket for a ground, used a small nut and bolt with a couple of washers. (obviously any other suitable grounding point could be used) The hole can be seen in this photo:-

http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa61/pns2007/P1000532.jpg

I didn't take any pictures of the positive connection, mainly because I changed my mind a couple of times. I was going to take a 'spur' off the interior lights circuit but the wiring was on the drivers side. Another possibility was to take a live from the cigarette lighter. I chose in the end to use the free fuse (number 2) in the beige fuse holder at the end of the dash board.

I used a connector similar to one of these which can be bought from

Trouble is I can't remember which one - I think it was 3 - 2050 in the picture above, but hopefully you see my point - Please check if you do it this way. I fitted a 3 amp fuse.

Thanks Chris.
Is that the only way, or can I splice into a cable? As I don't have the connectors to plug it in. Sort of wanted to have a crack at it on Boxing Day!

So I tried to get to this on the weekend struggled with the positive so went out a brought the connector which was possibly the correct one....I have this plugged in using a 5 amp fuse...which should work (didn't have 3) anywhere at home. But now the light won't come on...any ideas?

Sorted it! Realised you need to A have the ignition on, B the polarity of the led was wrong! Shame you have to have the ignition on for it to work.
