View Full Version : Ordered R Line Passat - Delivery Times ??

My first posting on this forum.

I have ordered a Passat RLine 2.0TDi 140BHP Estate to replace an 05 Passat Estate 1.9TDi (Trendline).

I spend a fair bit of time on the motorways so specified a couple of extras (upgrade to RCD510 radio and DAB upgrade) to while away the time.

It's a company car, so I can't chase a dealer for delivery times.

It was ordered mid July 09, and I was told to expect 12 to 14 weeks for delivery.

I received an email from the lease hire company last week, to expect delivery mid-October 09. Has anyone else out there ordered the RLIne and what delivery times have you been given?

The UK VW website doesn’t currently have a downloadable brochure for the RLine, but you can configure the car on the site. Dealers don’t yet have the brochure either – Has anyone seen one?

Finally, there seems to be a bit of confusion about the maximum size SD card that can be used in the RCD510, does anyone have first hand experience ? Can it be a SDHC ??

Many thanks in advance :D

My local dealer didn't have the Passat brochure with the R line model, so I thought, no problem, I'll e-mail VW UK direct and get them to send me one through the post. What turned up was the old brochure, with Sport and SEL models in it (no longer available as factory order), as well as S, Bluemotion 2 and Highline, but not a mention of the R line.

I've e-mailed VW UK back, pointing out what a hugh marketing blunder they've made here, trying to promote a new variant, telly adverts as well, but no brochure at all. What was the head of UK marketing thinking ?.

Anyway, rant over, let us know what you think of it when it arrives.

Here's a link to the manual for the Bolero (http://ws.skoda-auto.com/download/4all/Documentation/en/Octavia/0609/radio/A5FL_Octavia_Bolero_CarRadio.pdf) radio fitted to the new Skoda Octavia which is basically a RCD510. It seems to suggest that the larger SDHC cards should work.
Page 4 in the manual states:

Memory card case: SD memory cards (“Secure Digital Memory
Cards”), SDHC (“Secure Digital High Capacity Card”) and MMC
(“Multimedia Cards”) measuring 32 mm x 24 mm x 2.1 mm and with
a capacity of up to 32 GB are available. The case for the memory card
is located under the display.

Some discussion on the BriSkoda (http://briskoda.net/forums/) site also backs this up. Looked seriously at the Octavia and the RCD510 / Bolero radio for the ease of use of using the SD cards.

I ordered a Passat Highline Estate 170 at the start of July and have a delivery to the dealer late September. Company car, so opted for standard radio to keep cost down to enable getting the 170 engine.

Thanks Gordon for the information and link to the manual. I will probably wait until the car turns up and see what the manual says before committing to a purchase of a 32GB card.

I would have opted for the Highline, but her indoors can't stand leather, there was no option to have a cloth finish, hence my reason for the RLine, saved some pennies which I then opted for the RCD 510 Radio with DAB.

This will be my fourth Passat Estate Diesel, each time opting for a more powerful engine, maybe next time the 170BHP !:D

Delivery times seem to be similar to your car.

I have a RNS510 fitted to my 2009 140 Highline which I belive is a RCD510 with an additional Hard drive and Navigation System. This will only accept SD memory cards, it flags a format error with SDHC.

This limits the capacity to 2Gb although I did see an article claiming it was possible to get a Kingston 4Gb SD card. I did manage to find one online but when I copied files to it the RNS510 refused to read it.

Following on from my first post in this thread.

VW have now managed to launch a revised brocure for the Passat which includes the S & Bluemotion2, RLine, Highline and R36 models. :beerchug:
This is available for download off their website.

Update to the RLINE. Was ordered and signed off (company car) in mid July 2009.

Got it yesterday (16th September), so about 8 weeks from order - initial delivery estimate was mid Oct 09. :D

Fairly pleased with it, its a RLine 2.0 TDI 140 BHP Estate in Island Grey with optional RCD510 and DAB radio, 6 speed gearbox.

Wasn't looking forward to the electric/electronic brake, but since it comes with autohold option, I 've take to it - It is very easy to use. I've programmed the system so that the autohold is always on when the car is started (drivers seatbelt must be on). It feels quite natural to drive.

The RCD510 manual states that SD & MMC cards upto 2Gb and SDHC cards upto 32GB can be used (thats an awful lot of music!) - I've got a 4GB SDHC (3GB or so of music loaded) and that worked straightaway. Only gripe is that the card is visible (slightly) and thus on display to any wannabe thieves - LArge SD cards are still quite expensive. Might have been better if the card slot was under a cover??

RLine badge on front wing panels (both sides), otherwise only a keen eye would spot that its an RLine.

Early days, I've got a 300 mile trip planned this weekend, so we'll see how it goes with cruising / economy etc.

How did you program it? Presumably an MFD option, which those of us with older cars don't have?!

Tried a 32 Gb sd card in my radio ( 4 week old car with a RCD510) and it will not recognise it. But it will work with a 8Gb card

John - I was looking at getting a larger SD Card, what does your RCD510 radio manual state: Mine definitely states 32GB SDHC card usable (the manual print date is April? 2009)

Anyone else - your experiences

Hi Milnrow Lad

My manual is dated April 2009 also, I havent read the manual fully but the car is a 4 week old B6 with RCD510. When I got the car I put music onto the 32 Gb card but when I inserted it I just got an Error message. I at first suspected the card so i used another with the same results. So I tried a 8Gb card and it worked fine. I keep meaning to call in a VW dealership and ask them what the offical line is. I have a colleague who has a Passat CC with the same radio and will ask him his experiances, Will let you know ASAP
Regards John

I talked to the colleague with the CC and he's only used 8Gb card in his RCD510, But during the conversation it transpired those Sandisk Extreme III,32 Gb cards have caused trouble. They were some of the first 32 Gb cards available apparently.
I orderd more, they arrived an hour ago dropped music onto one and Hey-presto. Works fine!
We use memory cards for transfering data originally we used Compact flash cards, but the trend now is to use SD cards and we have had many failures since the change. They just dont seem robust enough!

Hope this helps John

Hello Lad from Milnrow

Car looks Great!, Island grey ...Good choice.
Mine is black and its a bugger to keep clean.
Going for a 8 - 16 Gb card also a wise move, Since I put a 32 Gb in mine its frozen twice & seems bogged down by the quantity of music on the card and its only been in two days!

Hi lads.
I'm interested in this conversation RE the SDHC cards as I intend to purchase a 32G card for my RCD510 when I get home.
I have been reading on the internet that the card must be formatted FAT32. The reason that I mention it is that as an old school Windows NT user, I am forever formatting memory sticks and cards NTFS and it seems that all the equipment that is coming out which uses this type of media don't like that file system.
The last example was an all in one printer scanner. It would not scan directly to my mem stick. After loads of faffiing I realised that it was NTFS, doh!

There is another consideration, the cards are marked with a tranfer speed rating.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Digital_card#SD_Speed_Class_Ratings
But from the ones I have seen for sale, they state transfer speed and a rating that don't match up.

Hope this helps.

Nice car BTW. :D

Hi
I had problems at first getting Error messages with a 32 Gb card, which turned out to be a problematic card. I managed to aquire another 32 Gb sandisk Extreme III card which worked. But after using the RCD 510 with that card its slow to access files and freezes reqularly, As if Its getting bogged down. My advice is to use smaller capacity cards ( Mine works superbly with a 8Gb Extreme III ). Another issue is Practice has proved ( we use the at work for software updates and data transfer ) SD cards just are not robust enough compared to Compact Flash we used previously.
Hope this helps
