My first posting on this forum.

I have ordered a Passat RLine 2.0TDi 140BHP Estate to replace an 05 Passat Estate 1.9TDi (Trendline).

I spend a fair bit of time on the motorways so specified a couple of extras (upgrade to RCD510 radio and DAB upgrade) to while away the time.

It's a company car, so I can't chase a dealer for delivery times.

It was ordered mid July 09, and I was told to expect 12 to 14 weeks for delivery.

I received an email from the lease hire company last week, to expect delivery mid-October 09. Has anyone else out there ordered the RLIne and what delivery times have you been given?

The UK VW website doesn’t currently have a downloadable brochure for the RLine, but you can configure the car on the site. Dealers don’t yet have the brochure either – Has anyone seen one?

Finally, there seems to be a bit of confusion about the maximum size SD card that can be used in the RCD510, does anyone have first hand experience ? Can it be a SDHC ??

    Many thanks in advance

My local dealer didn't have the Passat brochure with the R line model, so I thought, no problem, I'll e-mail VW UK direct and get them to send me one through the post. What turned up was the old brochure, with Sport and SEL models in it (no longer available as factory order), as well as S, Bluemotion 2 and Highline, but not a mention of the R line.

I've e-mailed VW UK back, pointing out what a hugh marketing blunder they've made here, trying to promote a new variant, telly adverts as well, but no brochure at all. What was the head of UK marketing thinking ?.

Anyway, rant over, let us know what you think of it when it arrives.

Here's a link to the manual for the Bolero radio fitted to the new Skoda Octavia which is basically a RCD510. It seems to suggest that the larger SDHC cards should work.
Page 4 in the manual states:

Memory card case: SD memory cards (“Secure Digital Memory
Cards”), SDHC (“Secure Digital High Capacity Card”) and MMC
(“Multimedia Cards”) measuring 32 mm x 24 mm x 2.1 mm and with
a capacity of up to 32 GB are available. The case for the memory card
    is located under the display.

Some discussion on the BriSkoda site also backs this up. Looked seriously at the Octavia and the RCD510 / Bolero radio for the ease of use of using the SD cards.

I ordered a Passat Highline Estate 170 at the start of July and have a delivery to the dealer late September. Company car, so opted for standard radio to keep cost down to enable getting the 170 engine.

Thanks Gordon for the information and link to the manual. I will probably wait until the car turns up and see what the manual says before committing to a purchase of a 32GB card.

I would have opted for the Highline, but her indoors can't stand leather, there was no option to have a cloth finish, hence my reason for the RLine, saved some pennies which I then opted for the RCD 510 Radio with DAB.

This will be my fourth Passat Estate Diesel, each time opting for a more powerful engine, maybe next time the 170BHP !

Delivery times seem to be similar to your car.

I have a RNS510 fitted to my 2009 140 Highline which I belive is a RCD510 with an additional Hard drive and Navigation System. This will only accept SD memory cards, it flags a format error with SDHC.

This limits the capacity to 2Gb although I did see an article claiming it was possible to get a Kingston 4Gb SD card. I did manage to find one online but when I copied files to it the RNS510 refused to read it.

Update to the RLINE. Was ordered and signed off (company car) in mid July 2009.

Got it yesterday (16th September), so about 8 weeks from order - initial delivery estimate was mid Oct 09.

Fairly pleased with it, its a RLine 2.0 TDI 140 BHP Estate in Island Grey with optional RCD510 and DAB radio, 6 speed gearbox.

Wasn't looking forward to the electric/electronic brake, but since it comes with autohold option, I 've take to it - It is very easy to use. I've programmed the system so that the autohold is always on when the car is started (drivers seatbelt must be on). It feels quite natural to drive.

The RCD510 manual states that SD & MMC cards upto 2Gb and SDHC cards upto 32GB can be used (thats an awful lot of music!) - I've got a 4GB SDHC (3GB or so of music loaded) and that worked straightaway. Only gripe is that the card is visible (slightly) and thus on display to any wannabe thieves - LArge SD cards are still quite expensive. Might have been better if the card slot was under a cover??

RLine badge on front wing panels (both sides), otherwise only a keen eye would spot that its an RLine.

Early days, I've got a 300 mile trip planned this weekend, so we'll see how it goes with cruising / economy etc.

How did you program it? Presumably an MFD option, which those of us with older cars don't have?!
