Hi All

I have a 3.0tdi quattro avant with a manual gearbox and a few weeks ago all of sudden on the motorway the yellow coil light on the dash starts flashing and the car wont go over 2500 revs. i have to restart the car for the light to go off but as soon as i put my foot down a little the light starts flashing again and i'v lost power. this is happening all the time now and i'v been to a garage for diagnostics, it came up with a fuel pressure fault (sounds expensive).

any one had this problem before?

any advice would help.

Cheers

It could be expensive but you own an Audi A4 3.0TDI, you should expect to pay the right money for such a car.

Typical, why is it that garages don’t give people the fault code report they have paid for? I give people a full print out and keep the scan on the server permanently, I have ever scan I have ever done. Without a fault code number I am stuck to help you. The most likely possibility is that the high pressure pump is faulty and yes, they are very expensive at £1100 plus fitting. What is the engine type code, BKN or ASB?

i can get the fault code tomorrow,
and the engine code is BKN

this is common its possibly high pressure fuel sender (Quick test of the measured values will give you actual rail pressure and disconnecting the sender will restore default pressures and return the power)or the turbo electric wastegate motor reading implausible signal (over boost which in turn will reduce fuel pressure to protect the engine)the motor can be replaced separate from the turbo and its dealer only as this has to be calibrated but as crasher says the fault code will shed more light on the matter and also ambient readings will give the tech more live feedback like actual boost and rail pressure plus rpm and frequency of fault.
