I noticed tonight there was water slowly dripping from the very front outside corners of the car, kind of like the front of the wheel arches. There is no sign of water loss in the coolant tank. I looked under the wheel arches and it seemed very wet at the front.
It rained yesterday so maybe could be something to do with that?

Have you checked your car again after the rain has cleared and did you drive the car while it was raining and drive through any large puddles??
Another possibility that springs to mind is check your windscreen washer bottle. This maybe damaged or a pipe from it has disconnected.

Check the plenum chamber where the battery is located isn't blocked and draining slowly.
Otherwise it may be air-conditioning condensate draining.

Hope it's not the plenum chamber as VW said they checked it wasn't blocked when they fitted new servo a month or so ago!
I take it if it's air con condensate its normal?

I paid £800 at a dealer but I also had to have a new brake pedal and fitting plus a brake light switch (and the cost included initial diagnosis). I think if it was just the servo it would have been around £500.

I really hope for your sake you dont need a servo! I had to get mine done within two weeks of buying the car privately! Absolute nightmare start to live as a Passat owner.
Touch wood though, it has been a wonderful car since having it done!

Just spoke to my VW dealer and they said that my 2001 passat 130tdi has got 2 outstanding recalls 1) clutch casing cover and 2) Plenum chamber.
I explained that i have recently experienced braking problems and also smoke coming from the exhaust (sludge in engine), i told them that i think it is because of the plenum chamber collecting water and therefore linked.
They said book the recalls and discuss with an adviser when i come in.
Does anyone think i have a chance of them making right possibly the servo and engine oil?
Any experiences?

Sorry, but water in the plenum will not cause smoking exhaust.....
It will cause water in the passenger footwell though  . May even wreck your CCM if your lucky...

That is usually further back under the car. Leaking washer bottle or plumbing which is travelling via the under tray to the corners of the car would be my favourite. Does it alter if you park the car with one side higher than the other ?
If it is only neasrside at all times - have you checked the cooling system drain tap which is behind the bumper cover on that side ?

Water in plenum...........water logged servo........brake failure........water in engine.
I have read a number of forums and a lot of people have suffered from the same problems!!
