Hi! 2002 TDI130 PD, had all the usual problems described on many threads here,no acceleration, max 80mph dropping thru gears, limp mode,& had been told many times it was the turbo..£1300VW,£470 recon, but thanks to the forum i was able to look at other options,..changed MAF, small vacuum pipe going into EGR valve & large intercooler hose on n/s of engine, also MAP sensor, but no result..finally changed boost control sensor(on o/s/f bottom of cambelt cover, beneath breather pipe),took few hours cos i kept dropping bolts into undertray! but soon as i started it up could tell.. it was growling, took it for run & pickup & pull in every gear.the part cost £36 from VW,ive maybe spent £200 while trying to eliminate things,so you people have saved me a lot of money! many thanks to everyone :beerchug:

Hi
When you had your problems were you getting excessive smoking?
thanks

Good news.

That is why some people call them ********, cos this time that is what they would have done.

Hi, 65cabby, no wasnt getting much smoke at all, just usual bit when you floor it, only times ive had lot of smoke is when ive had a hose split, bottom hose can be a bugger to get to,to check top hose has to come off,and springclips are bit hard to get at

Hi Sandy,Yeah mine read that, but Id tried other stuff before MAF meter,MAP sensor,& soon as I put Boost sensor on it kicked in.youve got to take quite bit of stuff off to get to it,time consuming more than difficult, part was £36 +vat..

This sounds similar to mine! I got a bit of pickup on my 2001 130 TDI PD, but reciently its been sluggish reciently, even moreso with a car full of people (light people), its struggled to go up hills and actually slowed down in 2nd gear!!!

I was going to try the MAF change too, but from what you've tried, i got a good path to go! Do you recommend that I cance the MAF, MAP sensor and also the boost control sensor?

Thanks for the post, what a great forum this is! :)

Hi Maxpower, with hindsight i would have put boost sensor on first, mainly because that was what kicked her back to life, but also its half the price of a MAF!! MAFs are well known to screw up but i didnt really need one, never mind tho i wont need another one for a long time! hope it works for you

hey nudger
i used main dealer its been done and seems ok ........they charged me £41.99 said they didn't charge for the labour as i had been back a second time with it when they only cleaned up terminals as suggested by v.w themselves ... so will see how goes bye for now ... happy driving

Sound as if this is what I need.
Started when I accelerated out into traffic, after stopping for a butty, all ok till then
Just dropped power. car that I pulled out in front I think got as much of a shock as me.. Later on ok, few days later, when braking hard to avoid some walking ducks that didnt. came up 'emmisions workshop' again power loss, not as bad though. some one suggested a cleaner, so put some in, still happens, but not as bad as 1st time. but put my foot down in low gear. and power goes. put an ODb on it shows error 'P0299' which is turbo boost underboost error, but cannot find more about the error code any where. So I think look at the sensor you mention. Did you have to move the front section forward to get to it, or is it reachable? Thanks for your post

Hi Sheepdog, when you say front off do you mean bumper etc,??..no, air filter housing & airintake pipe connected to grill,(3 screws),oil breather pipe off rocker top, that one looks like its part of a 3-way pipe,&pipe off turbo,(bolt either side & a jubilee clip),once they're off you can see right at it, & there is more room to get hands in,be careful there are 3 breather pipes on the sensor..ease them off slowly, cos theyve been there a while!!..also careful with the plug connection..i cant be the only one to have broken it trying to pull them apart..mark the pipes so you remember which connection..& hopefully,horsepower..!hope it goes Sheepdog

just a quick update on my problem... i've changed the MAF and it worked a dream!!! sooooo much more power now than before. I bought the BOSCH one for £96 and will take my old one back to get ~£30 refund.

Easy to change, glad it worked. Thanks guys!
